CHE-Studie "Vielfältige Exzellenz", 2011

 

The Departments of Business administration and Economics occupy the top position nationwide in the categories research, orientation on application, internationality and focus on students' demands. The Department of Psychology reaches four out of four top positions with its distinct focus on students' demands, namely in the categories overall study conditions, supervision, curriculum and feasibility of study programmes. The School of Humanities' strength is reflected in the top positions of no less than three subjects: the English/American Studies, the Media- and Communications Studies as well as the Romance Studies have received an excellent evaluation.

In the latest published evaluation of a survey of master's students majoring in business administration conducted by the Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung (CHE), the Mannheim Department of Business Administration has earned perfect scores. It is the only one of all evaluated business departments exhibiting a top ranking for all indicators. These include the five categories scientific and practical relevance, transition to master's studies, supervision and overall study conditions, which are published on the Zeit website, as well as nine additional ones, such as employment relevance, support with stays abroad or library.

The University of Mannheim's faculty for business administration was assigned rank 11 in the annual international "Masters in Management ranking", implemented by the Financial Times. Hereby it improved its position by two ranks in comparison to the ranking in 2010. The category "Value for Money" was rated outstanding as in the year before: With regard to the ratio between alumni's salaries three years after their graduation and a total of the tuition fees, Mannheim ranks as the second best institution.

The University of Mannheim has the best economics department in the German-speaking area. This is the result of the current Handelsblatt economics-Ranking. At the foundation of the analysis are the scientific publications by economists in professional journals. Currently, there are 11 of the 100 most productive scientists, in the category "lifetime achievement", teaching at the University of Mannheim. No other university has that many on-top professors in this category to show for. In the category of the 100 best scientists in the area of "latest research" was Mannheim, with seven professors, rated second after Zurich.

The University's library places fourth this year in the BIX, the German benchmarking of libraries. It ranks again, as in previous years, amongst the top 5 in the category of integrated scientific libraries.

The University of Mannheim is once more one of the most successful German universities according to the CHE-ranking, which assessed economics and the social sciences this year. It has obtained the best ratings for four programmes: Business, Economics, Political Science and Sociology. In the field of sociology, the university claims the leading position. Therefore, Mannheim continues to be the university with the most top scores in all areas of economics, the social sciences and the arts and humanities.

The best business majors are educated at the University of Mannheim, according to the managers in human resources. Thus, Mannheim's Business Administrators place first for the 10th consecutive year, the Economists improved their position from rank 4 to 1, and Business Informatics ranked third as it did in the previous year. These are the results of a current poll, in which 516 personnel managers participated.

The international ranking of the journal ‘Expansión' places the Mannheim Business School at rank 23 in the category "Best global MBAs for Mexicans". In the world-wide MBA-ranking of the Latin American economic journal ‘América Economía', Mannheim's Business School has improved its position by 10 from rank 41 to rank 31.

The University's library places fifth this year in the BIX, the German benchmarking of libraries. It ranks again amongst the top 5 in the category of integrated scientific libraries.

The arts and humanities of the University of Mannheim perform very well on a national level in the latest update of the CHE ranking. In the biggest German benchmarking of science and teaching, they rank in top places for more courses of studies than any other university participating in the performance comparison.

The courses of study "culture and business studies" as well as the Bachelor and the teacher training programmes in English Studies, German Studies, Romance Studies and History were analysed. The also once more ranked psychology programme could improve and reached the leading group in four of the five categories chosen for the "compact ranking". Thus, the university achieves top places in the CHE ranking in all areas of economics, the social sciences and the arts and humanities nationwide.

The University of Mannheim continues to be highly esteemed by employers. In the field of business studies, it enjoys the best reputation of all German universities for the ninth year in a row. The Business Informatics programme places third. In the field of economics, the university ranks fourth and in computer sciences sixth, ahead of the TU Berlin and the LMU Munich. The Law program has obtained the 10th place and thus advanced into the top 10.

Searching „Germany's Top Economists" the business paper "Handelsblatt" examined the lists of publication of more than 1,700 german speaking economist scientists of the year 2009. Its finding: most of the researchers among the best 100 scientists as well in the category "current research" as in the category "lifework" are working at the University of Mannheim. So the obvious result of the "Handelsblatt" is: "Mannheim ... is far ahead the most research productive faculty of economics in Germany."

The Economic Sciences of the University of Mannheim are among the excellence-group of the CHE Rankings 2009. Compared to European standards the department is classified as international orientated and eminently strong in research. For the assortment five criteria were of importance: extraordinary achievements in research indicators, for example the number of publications and citations and the international orientation, which was recorded by the Erasmus-Master as well as by the student and lecturer mobility.

The apprenticeship of the Business faculty in Mannheim is ranked globally 8th by “Global Masters in Management” of the Financial Rimes. The department advanced two ranks compared to the previous year. Realized income was one of the crucial criteria; the highest salary worldwide, 72.000 US-Dollar, is the average income for a diploma merchant of the University of Mannheim three years after graduation.

The University of Mannheim is the most successful university nationwide in the field of Business and Social Sciences according to the current DFG-Ranking (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). The DFG is the biggest research advancement in Germany. In the DFG’s announcement the Mannheim University is called to be an “exemplary small-sized academy with a successful distinct profile”.

This is the result of the ranking of the best explorative academics, released by the Handelsblatt. Altogether eleven Members of the Mannheim Business department are placed among the 200 best academics in the German-speaking area.

The academics Business, Economics and Social Sciences were evaluated anew in the CHE-Ranking 2008. All of them were allocated as part of the top flight university disciplines. Mannheim’s Sociologists proved their focus on research in five out of seven categories. As well the Economists were assigned as strong in research in six out of nine criteria. The best Result was achieved by the Business Economists; eight out of nine categories were conformed.

The Mannheim Business School is still advancing forward: In the Financial Times Ranking of the best Executive-MBA-Programs ESSEC & MANNHEIM Executive MBA enhanced their position of the previous year and are now listed on rank 25. The extra-occupational course of studies, which is offered by the Mannheim Business School and the French Business University ESSEC, is placed in the top ten, regarding the categories “career advance of ancient attendants” (6th rank) “internationality of the curriculum” (8th rank) and “internationality of the attendants” (9th rank).

The Mannheim Economists are ranked nationwide 4th. In the Economics-Ranking Prof. Dr. Enno Mammen (statistics) excelled as strongest professor in research. Altogether six professors from Mannheim who published in Top-5-Journals were placed among the 50 best Economists. Therefore the Mannheim Economists belong to the leading Faculties of Economics in Germany.

The Mannheim Business School is among the ten best Management Training Colleges of Europe. It is ranked globally 31st and reigned supreme in Germany. This was the result of the MBA-Ranking of the Latin-American business publication América Economía.

According to the reissue of CHE-Ranking the University of Mannheim is the most successful German University. The Authors of the biggest German University Evaluation CHE certified an “outstanding” result for the UM: Mannheim’s Business, Political and Social Science were rated best possible. Also among the leading faculties in Germany are Mannheim’s Economics, Jura and Media- and Communication Sciences.

The steering committee of the pilot study “research-rating” on behalf of the science council concerned itself with the research accomplishments of German universities. They confirmed Mannheim’s eminent assignments: As the only university its research qualities were rated “excellent”. In the criteria efficiency and promotion of young talents Mannheim achieved very good results as well.

By the accreditation of the British Association of MBAs (AMBA) the University of Mannheim has the three most important international cachets, the so called “Triple Crown”. Only 33 academies more have this accreditation of the three significant accreditation organizations AMBA (London), AACSB International (St. Louis/USA) and EQUIS (Brüssel).

The results of the CHE-Ranking certify Mannheim’s exceeding accomplishments in research. Valuated anew were Anglistics, History and Psychology. In all of the disciplines the Mannheim Sciences were allocated with very good per capita achievements. The Anglistics are in a top position (3rd rank) considering the height of research grants and is ahead of other greater departments of other universities. As well the Mannheim Historians are in the nationwide top flight regarding the criterion “third-party funds per academic”.

The University of Mannheim was the smallest university competing in the excellence competition being successful. The university received the consent to establish a Graduate School for the field of economics and social sciences.

The biggest German university ranking confirmed the position of the University of Mannheim as one of the leading German universities. This year the humanities and psychology were re-evaluated. Mannheim’s humanities confirmed their good position in the ranking by achieving the third place for English language and literature studies and the seventh place for German language and literature studies throughout the whole of Germany. Mannheim’s psychology was able to join the top flight in two of five evaluated categories. In the previous years CHE evaluated programs of study from Mannheim’s business studies and social sciences. Both Mannheim’s economics and political science were ranked first. Both business studies and sociology also belong to the top flight in the ranking.

According to a survey launched by the Focus magazine the University of Mannheim was able to upgrade its position anew. Due to the survey the university was able to advance from the eighth rank to rank six in the category concerning the overall quality of all the subjects, which means that Mannheim belongs to the ten best universities throughout Germany. Mannheim is the smallest university, which was positioned in this top flight. The subjects business studies and economics are leading in the German academic landscape.

Graduates from the Mannheim Business School enjoy an excellent reputation in the world of business. For the sixth time in a row the university has achieved the first position in business studies. Mannheim’s economics were positioned on the second place and the computer sciences came in tenth place. Due to the magazine, “Mannheim sets the standards”. The survey is based on the questioning of more than 1000 human resource managers from the largest German companies.

The international edition of the Financial Times listed the ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA to the best top 50 study possibilities worldwide. Mannheim was placed on the 31st position at the first go. For the criteria “career progress” Mannheim was positioned on the 3rd rank worldwide.

The results of the business magazine karriere prove: German Human Resources managers regard Mannheim´s graduates as the best in Business Administration. The study course “Media and Communications” was ranked for the first time and immediately reached the German Top Ten in its field. Also in the Top Ten of its field is the Department of Law. The ranking is based on objective criteria such as “mentoring” and “length of studies”, as well as on a survey of students, graduates and Human Resources managers.

The Faculty of Business Administration was ranked first for the fifth time in a row. The Department of Economics also scores very well, holding the second rank. More than 1.000 human resources managers were asked to name their favourite universities and the best graduates.

In the newly updated ranking of the DFG (German society for research) the University of Mannheim was positioned on the 2nd position in the category social and behavioral sciences. By this positioning, the DFG acknowledges the prime position of the University of Mannheim in the academic landscape, even though Mannheim is the smallest university in the ranking and its core competences lie in a different area of study.

The study concludes: “The University of Mannheim is outstanding because of its high income - total and per student. Furthermore, it shows the highest share of fundraising income in budget funds.”

The ranking of the business magazine Handelsblatt has identified the 25 “masterminds of Business Administration” in Germany, among these four professors of the University of Mannheim. Christian Homburg (Marketing) ranks first, Martin Weber (Finance) third, Stefan Minner (Logistics) 25th and Ernst Maug (Corporate Finance), who will be in Mannheim from the beginning of the year 2006, 21st. As a result of it, Mannheim is – according to the Handelsblatt – situated “clearly at the top”.

The Faculty of Business Administration as well as the Department of Economics at the University of Mannheim result in having a commanding position refering to their research. As the only German institution, the Department of Economics was ranked in eight out of nine categories in the top group of the listed ones. The Faculty of Business Administration reaches the top group in six out of seven categories – also as the only German one.

In a nationwide comparison, both Business Administration and Economics take the first position. The political and social sciences also reach the top group. The ranking is based on a survey of scientists and companies as well as on official statistics.

The result of the business magazine Wirtschaftswoche is based on a survey of 800 human resources managers who were asked to judge the universities with the best reputation and the best graduates. Additionally, the magazine included the data of the service provider Access about the process of graduates´ careers after having completed their degree.

The business magazine Junge Karriere considers the programme „The European MBA“ to be the one with the best price-performance ratio. The University of Mannheim is also placed in the Top Twenty of the European Business Schools and therefore is the best German institution in the ranking. Already a month before, a survey had been published in the same magazine: Mannheim had turned out to be the best university in Germany, according to the opinion of German managers.

The University of Mannheim is the most successful German university for business and social sciences. This has been proven by an analysis of 1.700 international professional newspapers. The analysis had been carried out by the University of Cologne. Thanks to their per capita performance the professors of Mannheim overtook higher-staffed institutions in the over-all output. Following the study, the University of Mannheim is leading in Business Administration, Economics, social sciences and political science.

The Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) awards the “best practice award 2003” to the University of Mannheim. With that prize, CHE awards universities for their successful top-to-bottom reforms as for their management, research and doctrine. “The University of Mannheim was brave enough to develop a precise profile”, praises Detlef Müller–Böling, the director of CHE.

The University of Mannheim reached the second position in the category “humanitarian sciences” (amongst others business sciences, social sciences, law). Only the larger Humboldt- University of Berlin ranked better.

An evalutation of the world-wide most important professional newspapers has shown: the Department of Political Science in Mannheim is the leading research institute of this subject nationwide. By reaching the 15th position, the Department makes it to the European Top Twenty-ranking – as the only German institute.
