Program History

So far, it took an enormous amount of time and effort to succeed in that mutual exchange program as we have it today. The program was initiated by the student body of the faculty of Psychology, and with the heavy backing of Prof. Dr. Werner W. Wittmann from the University of Mannheim and Prof. Georg Matt from the University of San Diego.

November 2000
After a first contact with Prof. Georg Matt from the University of San Diego in  the initial idea of developing some direct relations to foreign universities soon became more concrete: the plan of establishing a mutual exchange program arose.

April 2001
A German delegation consisting of Prof. Werner Wittmann, Dipl-Psych. Markus Held and the graduate Mannheim psychology students Marco Behrmann and Jessica Ippolito met the San Diego exchange developing partners at SDSU.

A few weeks later Dr. Keith Hattrup, Dr. Jeff M. Conte, Keren Brooks (graduate student) and Benjamin Ingram (graduate student) visit UM in Germany. Again, a large amount of discussion possibilities, insights in the German university system, taking part at UM classes, site seeing in and around Mannheim, presenting San Diego as well as research and science at SDSU to Mannheim psychology staff and students are offered.

September 2001

The first UM students started their studies at SDSU.
