The FKKS provides experts for political, educational, inner company and outside school events. It also serves a placement function for social scientists from the Eastern and East Central Europe. The FKKS staff also serve as political consultants in the East and West, participate in election observation and perform in other advisory capacities.

In order to intensify the social science and interdisciplinary exchange and to foster dialogue with institutions active in the East as well as with NGOs, enterprices, etc., the FKKS also organizes its own conferences and symposia.

The research results achieved by the FKKS are usually published. For this purpose the group itself issues a series of papers "Untersuchungen des FKKS" and the book series "Studien zu Konflikt und Kooperation im Osten" which is published by the Lit Verlag.
