The First Steps

Introductory Study Abroad Meeting

In the Einführungsveranstaltung Auslandsstudium, interested students receive a short overview of their study abroad and funding options. This meeting provides you with the necessary basic knowledge you need regarding your study abroad, so that you can better decide which programmes and funding options work for you. You will then be able to find more detailed information on the internet and in brochures. An individual consultation with our staff may answer specific questions.

Please visit this information session directly at the beginning of your studies in order not to miss any deadlines - note that the first possible deadline for bachelor students lies already in the second semester of studies, and master students have to apply in their first semester for some programmes!

Please note that this meeting is currently held only in German - English sessions are planned to start in the autumn of 2012 and the dates will be publicised here.
Until then, if you wish to learn about the session's contents, please arrange an individual meeting with a member of the International Office to discuss your plans in more detail.

Registration for the Introductory Meeting is not necessary.

Once they are available in English, you need to have attended an introductory meeting before you ask for a an individual consultation.

Business School (BWL) Bachelor: Please do not attend the Introductory Meeting of the International Office. For every new incoming class of Business School Bachelor students there will be a separate study abroad information meeting (usually in the 2nd semester). You will be notified of this meeting through your faculty.

Information and Contact Persons in the Departments

Since the requirements and opportunities for studying abroad are different depending on one's course of study, it is important that you check the specific information for students in your department. You can find most of this information on the homepage of your department or the respective faculty under "Internationales".  Additionally, please contact the Departmental Coordinators with your questions.

Country Information
The website of the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst - DAAD) is the most comprehensive information portal regarding studying abroad. In addition to general information and funding possibilities , you can find many further tips here: www.daad.de (click on "Informationen für Deutsche"). As this service is only available in German, please contact us if you would like some assistance. Please note that there have been changes since January 2011. For more information go to Funding > DAAD.

A further independent DAAD website with more specific country information (especially on the cultural aspect in European countries) and some experience reports by German students is the EU community: http://eu-community.daad.de.

The interactive website www.vocalproject.eu offers interesting country information especially on smaller European countries. Additionally, you may gain some basic knowledge of some European languages (e.g. Polish, Hungarian).

The CHE Consult GmbH website www.laendercheck-auslandsstudium.de provides information on pros and cons of a complete Bachelor programme abroad as well as valuable information on funding opportunities (e. g. legal rights in terms of working abroad, scholarships of the host country).
