Going Abroad

Would you like to study at a foreign university for one or two semesters? There are many different options to turn this wish into a reality. The most popular and easiest way to do this is to choose an exchange programme at one of the University of Mannheim's partner universities. The programme you choose will most likely depend on your field of study. The benefit of these programmes is that you will not have to pay any student tuition fees to your host university. Within Europe, most of the programmes participate in and are supported through the ERASMUS-Programme of the European Union. Additionally, there are the interdisciplinary Baden-Württemberg State Programmes (Landesprogramme) - here, too, you do not need to pay any student tuition fees. You can apply for these programmes at the International Office (please note that with some partner universities you can apply directly in your school / department).

You can also go abroad as a „Free-Mover." For this, you need to apply directly to your desired university. The DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst - German Academic Exchange Service) awards scholarships for independent and self-organised exchange programmes. The Fulbright Commission is another institution that awards scholarships to study in the USA. If you would rather accumulate practical experience in another country, you could do an internship (Praktikum) or, if you are studying to become a teacher, the PAD (Pädagogischer Austauschdienst) offers teaching placements in a school abroad for up to one year.

On the following pages, you will be able to find all the important information about the University's existing exchange programmes as well as information about other options to go abroad.
