Call for Papers: Workshop on Conflict Dynamics 2021

Workshop on Conflict Dynamics
20–21 September 2021

We invite you to submit an abstract for the 5th edition of the Workshop on Conflict Dynamics, to be held online on 20–21 September 2021.* The aim of the workshop, which is independently organised by junior scholars for junior scholars, is to bring together early career researchers working on armed conflict, broadly defined, to discuss and receive feedback on their research from their peers and senior researchers in an environment that fosters cooperation and support among a community of scholars. We encourage applications from graduate students and junior scholars who want to present work in progress (preference will be given to projects in their early stages) and to engage with the work of their peers through discussion and feedback over the two day workshop.

Since 2017, our workshop has provided a forum that enables extended and in-depth reflection on work in progress among early career researchers working on similar topics and with similar research interests. Each presenter will have 15 minutes to present, 15 minutes for feedback from the discussant and 15 minutes for feedback from the audience. The workshop will also include expert roundtable discussions on topics of interest to conflict scholars and on professional development, as well as opportunities for networking including a virtual drinks reception. Following last year’s successful ‘Pass it On’ session, we will also continue to run this event designed to facilitate the exchange of expertise and experience between our participants. You can see the programmes from our previous workshops here

Participants will be kindly requested to submit their paper two weeks in advance (06 September 2021) to give the discussant time to prepare feedback and to allow all the participants to read the papers and choose which sessions they would like to attend.

The call for papers is closed.

We will inform you about the outcome of your application by 31 May 2021. If you have any further questions about the workshop, please contact Nick Barker on nicholas.barker protonmail.com.

We're very much looking forward to receiving your submissions!

* Due to the volatile COVID-19 situation and after the success of last year’s online edition, we have decided to hold the Workshop online again. We hope to return to our usual home of Nuffield College, University of Oxford, in 2022.
