Open Post-Doc position on political text understanding

We are looking to hire a full-time post-doc (E13 100%) at the Data and Web Science group of the University of Mannheim to work on natural language understanding of political texts - see [1] for an overview of the research area. The successful candidate will contribute to projects B6 and C4 of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 884 on the “Political Economy of Reforms”. Both projects, which are described here [2,3], will involve close interaction between scholars from Computer Science, Political Science and Economics.

The position is for 3 years starting in November 2019. We are looking for team players with proven record of excellence in Natural Language Processing, Computational Social Science or a related field (e.g., Machine Learning), who are fluent in English (both oral and written), have strong programming and experimental skills, and are highly motivated in publishing at top-tier venues on interdisciplinary research topics.

The NLP group at the University of Mannheim focuses on knowledge acquisition, natural language processing, and their application to support empirical research in (Computational) Social Sciences and (Digital) Humanities. We are part of the larger Data and Web Science group [4], a cluster of 7 faculty members and 20+ PhD students and researchers covering a wide range of topics in Data Science. The University of Mannheim is home to one of Europe's leading schools of economics and social sciences according to different national and international university rankings.
