As of this fall semester, you need a Classroom Pass in order to participate in in-person classes or to study at one of the university’s work stations. The Classroom Pass is your confirmation that you provided the University of Mannheim with a 3G proof.
You can obtain the Classroom Pass in the Classroom Pass Center (CPC). On this website, you'll find out where the Classroom Pass Center is located, which documents you must bring and to find other important questions and answers about the Classroom Pass Center.
You can get a digital version or a paper version of the Classroom Pass. The easiest way is to go to the CPC where you can link your Classroom Pass and your digital Checkin profile. This way, you have your Classroom Pass always on your mobile phone, tablet or laptop and it is easy to access your Classroom Pass when you login to Checkin. If you do not want to link your Classroom Pass with Checkin, you can also receive a paper version of the Classroom Pass.
No, the Classroom Pass does not contain any information on the 3G requirement you have fulfilled (3G stands for the German words “geimpft” (vaccinated), “genesen” (recovered) or “getestet” (tested)). The Classroom Pass shows that you have submitted a 3G proof and indicates the period of validity of this proof.
In order to issue a Classroom Pass, we need you to bring your vaccination card, proof of recovery or test result as well as your identity card. If you want to link your Classroom Pass with Checkin, we also need your Uni-ID.
Important: If you want to link your Classroom Pass with Checkin, you need to log into Checkin prior to visiting the Classroom Pass Center. Once logged into Checkin, go to “Show my data” and check the box “Allow 3G status information to be stored” (cf. screenshot below).
In the next section, you will find more information about the proofs of vaccination, recovery or testing that we accept and what you need to observe if you are vaccinated against, have recovered from or tested negative for Covid-19.
To receive a Classroom Pass, it is sufficient to visit the Classroom Pass Center once at the beginning of the semester. At the Classroom Pass Center, you need to submit credible proof that you are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 with one of the vaccines that have been approved by the EU. An entry in the international certificate of vaccination or the CovPass app, for example, is considered credible proof. To be accepted, the proof has to be issued in German or English or translated into one of these languages. On the website of the Paul Ehrlich institute, you will find an overview about the vaccines that have been approved in the EU, the required amount of shots per vaccine as well as the international names of the vaccines that have been approved in the EU and are also accepted.
If you have been vaccinated with a vaccine that is not approved in the EU – that means that is not listed on the website of the Paul Ehrlich institute – please contact a vaccination center or a physician in Germany for a consultation to discuss if they can offer you an additional vaccination with a vaccine approved in the EU. If it is currently not possible to receive an additional vaccination, you need to get tested before participating in in-person classes or before using the workstations for students. In the section on “... are tested” (link), you will find more information.
Please also take note of the following: In Germany, you need to wait 14 days after your second vaccination or 14 days after the vaccination with the single-dose vaccine by Johnson&Johnson before you are deemed to be fully vaccinated.
To get a Classroom Pass, please go to the Classroom Pass Center and submit your proof of recovery. It is sufficient to submit the proof once. The proof of recovery must have been issued in German or English or translated into one of these languages. Otherwise, we are unable to accept your proof.
The period of validity of your Classroom Pass is limited to the period of validity of your proof of recovery. The maximum period of validity is six months. After the period of validity has expired, you need to go to the Classroom Pass Center to verify that you are vaccinated against, have recovered from or tested negative for Covid-19 in order to extend the period of validity of your Classroom Pass.
If you are neither vaccinated against nor have recovered from Covid-19 and you still want to participate in classes on-campus, you have the option to go to the Classroom Pass Center to have your test result from the same day verified. If you present a negative test result of a rapid test or a PCR test, you will receive a Classroom Pass. The test must have been carried out by professionals at a testing center or pharmacy or by physicians. We kindly ask for your understanding that we are unable to accept the results of at-home test kits.
The validity of the Classroom Pass is currently limited to 24 hours from the time of the test. We are currently working with the authorities issuing the relevant decrees to clarify if the validity of the Covid-19 tests and therefore also the Classroom Pass may be extended to 72 hours.
If you want to participate in classes on campus after the period of validity has expired, you need to re-visit the Campus Class Center for verification.
You can get tested for Covid-19 on campus. The test center is also located in the rooms of the Classroom Pass Center in the Arkadentheater. Please bear in mind that you have to wait at least 20 minutes for the test result. At the beginning of the semester, in particular, you may also have to wait to get tested. Please plan your schedule accordingly.
Please note:As of 11 October, most people will have to pay for Covid-19 rapid tests in Germany. If you are not eligible for vaccination or if there is no vaccination recommendation for you, you are exempt from this provision.
At the beginning of the semester, in particular, waiting times might be longer. Please plan your schedule accordingly if you want to participate in classes on-campus. If you want to have a Covid-19 rapid test on campus, you need to schedule at least 20 minutes for the test.
If you are vaccinated against or have recovered from Covid-19, we recommend to go to the Classroom Pass Center in the week before the lecture period starts so that less people visit the Classroom Pass Center right at the beginning of the semester.
If there is a Classroom Pass check and you are unable to present your Classroom Pass, you must leave the on-campus class or the free workstation for students and go to the Classroom Pass Center to get a Classroom Pass. We are obliged to inform you that you might have to pay a fine in the amount of 150 to 1,000 euros, if you are unable to present proof of your 3G status. For more information, please refer to the List of fines for misdemeanors under the act on the prevention and control of infectious diseases (Bußgeldkatalog für Ordnungswidrigkeiten nach dem Infektionsschutzgesetz, in German) of the Ministry of Social Affairs in Baden-Württemberg.
Yes. The Classroom Pass is also valid in the library as proof that you have been vaccinated, have recovered or have tested negative. Alternatively, proof of full vaccination against the coronavirus, proof of convalescence, or proof of a daily negative test can still be presented directly at the library.
If you are vaccinated, it is sufficient if you go to the Classroom Pass Center at the beginning of the semester and present your proof of vaccination once.
The same applies if you have recovered from Covid-19, if your proof of recovery is valid until the end of the semester. After the period of validity has expired, you need to go to the Classroom Pass Center to verify that you are vaccinated against, have recovered from or tested negative for Covid-19 in order to extend the period of validity of your Classroom Pass.
If you have been tested negative, you can get a Classroom Pass for the day. The validity of this Classroom Pass is currently limited to 24 hours from the time of testing. We are currently working with the authorities issuing the relevant decrees to clarify if the validity of the Covid-19 tests and therefore also the Classroom Pass may be extended to 72 hours.
In these 24 hours, you can use this Classroom Pass to participate in classes on campus. You may also participate in several classes on campus. If you want to participate in classes on campus after the period of 24 hours has expired, you need to renew your Classroom Pass in the Classroom Pass Center. To renew the Classroom Pass, you need a new certificate from the same day stating that you have been tested negative for Covid-19.
If you have chosen the paper version of the Classroom Pass and forgot to bring it, you are not allowed to participate in classes on-campus. If you have a digital Classroom Pass stored in Checkin but forgot to bring your mobile phone, tablet or laptop and there is a Classroom Pass check, you can use another device (e.g. of your fellow students or the lecture hall computer) to login to Checkin with your login information. This way you are still able to present your Classroom Pass. For data security reasons, please make sure to log out of your account right aftwards and make sure not to store your data locally on the other person's device.
You do not need a Classroom Pass for these in-person examinations. We will comply with the relevant distance requirements. Masks must be worn until seated. We will also air the rooms accordingly.
We will inform you in due time about the relevant regulations for in-person examinations in the fall semester. These regulations will be based on the coronavirus decree for higher education which is then valid.
