For attending in-person classes, examinations, and for visiting the University Library, the 3G rule applies (vaccinated, recovered or tested). Students and teachers need a Classroom Pass in order to participate in examinations or to study at one of the university’s work stations. The Classroom Pass is your confirmation that you provided the University of Mannheim with a 3G proof.
Please go to the Classroom Pass Center (CPC) to request a Classroom Pass. On this website, you will find more information on how to find the Classroom Pass Center and which documents you need to bring. You will also find the answers to important questions you may have regarding the Classroom Pass.
Yes. When the new semester begins, the Classroom Passes issued during the fall semester 2021/2022 will no longer be valid.
When the new semester begins, the Classroom Passes issued during the fall semester 2021/2022 will no longer be valid. Starting 1 February, anyone who studies on campus will have to have their 3G proof verified again at the Classroom Pass Center. Please have your 3G proof verified on the first day you study on campus. This should be done by 28 February at the latest. Please note that in order to renew your digital Classroom Pass in the future, it will be necessary to store additional data (see Prerequisites for renewing your digital Classroom Pass).
As you may have read in the media, the Robert Koch Institute has reduced the period of validity of the status as a person who has recovered from COVID-19 from six to three months. In addition, anyone vaccinated with the vector vaccine from Johnson & Johnson will only be considered to have initial COVID-19 immunization if they have been vaccinated the second time with another vaccine.
Due to these changes, it will be necessary in the future to document your basic type of immunization (e.g. “recovered”, “vaccinated”, or “recovered and vaccinated”) and the date of immunization in order to be able to reliably calculate the period of validity of your digital Classroom Pass and adapt it to future legal changes. These important data are stored as sparingly as possible and will of course not be displayed in the Classroom Pass. When visiting the Classroom Pass Center, you can decide for yourself whether or not you consent to the storage of the above-mentioned data.
If you do not agree to the storage of such data, you will receive a hard copy Classroom Pass with a validity period of 24 hours. In this case, it is not possible to issue a digital Classroom Pass.
Enter your booster shot
Since we expect that Germany is going to implement the new provisions of the EU according to which individuals who have received initial immunization will no longer be considered to have been fully vaccinated after nine months, you have the option of having your booster shot entered in the system right now. This, however, is voluntary. This would have the advantage that you would not have to visit the Classroom Pass Center again after the new EU provision has been implemented.
All these regulations and options are intended to help ensure that you need to visit the Classroom Pass Center as seldom as possible in order to have your digital 3G proof adjusted.
If you have any questions regarding the renewal of your Classroom Pass, the team of the Classroom Pass Center will be happy to answer them via e-mail.
You can get a digital version or a paper version of the Classroom Pass. The easiest way is to go to the CPC where you can link your Classroom Pass and your digital Checkin profile. This way, you have your Classroom Pass always on your mobile phone, tablet or laptop and it is easy to access your Classroom Pass when you login to Checkin. If you do not want to link your Classroom Pass with Checkin, you can also receive a paper version of the Classroom Pass.
In order to issue a Classroom Pass, we need you to bring your proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or test result as well as your identity card. If you want to link your Classroom Pass with Checkin, we also need your Uni-ID. Please note: As of 1 December 2021, the yellow vaccination record is no longer recognized as proof of vaccination in Baden-Württemberg. You need a proof of vaccination with a readable QR code to receive a Classroom Pass.
Please note: If you want to link your Classroom Pass with Checkin, please go to the section “Show my data” in your Checkin account before you come to the Classroom Pass Center and check the box “I consent to the processing of my personal data for proving my 2G/3G status.“ (see screenshot below).
In the next section, you will find more information about the proofs of vaccination, recovery or testing that we accept and what you need to observe if you are vaccinated against, have recovered from or tested negative for Covid-19.
If you are vaccinated:
To obtain your Classroom Pass, you only need to go to the Classroom Pass Center once. At the Classroom Pass Center, you must submit credible proof that you are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 with one of the vaccines approved by the EU. An entry in the CovPass app, for example, is considered credible proof. To be accepted, the proof has to be issued in German or English or translated into one of these languages and needs to contain a QR-Code. On the website of the Paul Ehrlich institute, you will find an overview about the vaccines that have been approved in the EU, the required amount of shots per vaccine as well as the international names of the vaccines approved in the EU.
If you have been vaccinated with a vaccine, that is not approved in the EU – that means that it is not listed on the website of the Paul Ehrlich institute – please contact a physician in Germany for a consultation to discuss if they can offer you an additional vaccination with a vaccine approved in the EU. If it is currently not possible to receive an additional vaccination, you have to get tested. Please read more under “If you have tested negative”.
Please also take note of the following: In Germany, you need to wait 14 days after your second vaccination before you are deemed to be fully vaccinated.
If you have recovered:
To get a Classroom Pass, please go to the Classroom Pass Center and submit your proof of recovery. It is sufficient to submit the proof once. The proof of recovery must have been issued in German or English or translated into one of these languages. Otherwise, we are unable to accept your proof.
The period of validity of your Classroom Pass is limited to the period of validity of your proof of recovery. The maximum period of validity is three months. After the period of validity has expired, you need to go to the Classroom Pass Center to verify that you are vaccinated against, have recovered from or tested negative for Covid-19 in order to extend the period of validity of your Classroom Pass.
If you have tested negative:
If you are neither vaccinated against nor have recovered from Covid-19, you have the option to go to the Classroom Pass Center and have your test result from the same day verified. The validity of the Classroom Pass is limited to 24 hours from the time of the test.
If you present a negative test result of a rapid test or a PCR test, you will receive a Classroom Pass. The test must have been carried out by professionals at a testing center or pharmacy or by physicians.
This is for instance possible here:
You can also test yourself at the Classroom Pass Center. Please bring a test (here is an overview of SARS-CoV-2 tests that are recognized).
Please note: The confirmation of the test result is only valid for the 3G proof issued by the University of Mannheim. The CPC will not issue a certificate for entering other establishments outside the campus or for using public transport.
If there is a Classroom Pass check and you are unable to present your Classroom Pass, you must leave the on-campus class or the free workstation for students and go to the Classroom Pass Center to get a Classroom Pass. We are obliged to inform you that you might have to pay a fine in the amount of 150 to 1,000 euros, if you are unable to present proof of your 3G status. For more information, please refer to the List of fines for misdemeanors under the act on the prevention and control of infectious diseases (Bußgeldkatalog für Ordnungswidrigkeiten nach dem Infektionsschutzgesetz, in German) of the Ministry of Social Affairs in Baden-Württemberg.
If you have chosen the paper version of the Classroom Pass and forgot to bring it, you are not allowed to participate in classes on-campus. If you have a digital Classroom Pass stored in Checkin but forgot to bring your mobile phone, tablet or laptop and there is a Classroom Pass check, you can use another device (e.g. of your fellow students or the lecture hall computer) to login to Checkin with your login information. This way you are still able to present your Classroom Pass. For data security reasons, please make sure to log out of your account right aftwards and make sure not to store your data locally on the other person's device.
If you are vaccinated
If you are vaccinated, it is sufficient if you go to the Classroom Pass Center at the beginning of the semester and present your proof of vaccination once.
If you have recovered
The same applies if you have recovered from Covid-19, if your proof of recovery is valid until the end of the semester. After the period of validity has expired, you need to go to the Classroom Pass Center to verify that you are vaccinated against, have recovered from or tested negative for Covid-19 in order to extend the period of validity of your Classroom Pass.
If you have tested negative
If you have tested negative, you can get a Classroom Pass for the day, which is limited to 24 hours from the time of testing.
Yes. The Classroom Pass is also valid in the library as proof that you have been vaccinated, have recovered or have tested negative. Alternatively, proof of full vaccination against the coronavirus, proof of convalescence, or proof of a daily negative test can still be presented directly at the library.
