  • Good to know

    • You want to register for one or several events? All international degree-seeking students of the University of Mannheim will receive an email to their university account as soon as the registration period for each event begins. Registration is required for all events within our FIT for Career program.
    • You  would like to work more than 140 days a year? Internships and working student positions that relate to your program of study may be excluded from the 140-days-rule. The International Office can issue a confirmation for this purpose, if you present your internship contract or your contract for working students. The confirmation then needs to be submitted to the immigration office in Mannheim. Only then, your internship or working student job does not count towards the 140 days. Please note: This only applies if you have your main residence in Mannheim. Immigration offices in other cities may have different regulations.
    • You are planning to do an internship and want to apply for an academic leave of absence? If you hold a residence permit for the purpose of studying, the foreigners’ office of the city of Mannheim unfortunately does not allow you to take an academic leave of absence for an internship. You must be regularly enrolled during your internship and also pay the tuition fees. Please note: This only applies if you have your main residence in Mannheim. Immigration offices in other cities may have different regulations.
    • You hold a residence permit for the purpose of studying and are about to complete your studies? Please note that if you intend to stay in Germany, you must apply for the following residence permit after successfully completing your studies (publication of the last grade in Portal2) in due time. Should you disenroll, your residence permit will expire automatically within 14 days after disenrollment. We recommend that you contact us in good time so that we can support you.

Mannheim my Future – Life and work in Mannheim

International students obviously need a lot of support when making the transition to a new country. The Step by Step program offered by the International Office helped me a lot with understanding German culture and working environment. The various events offered range from “Applying for Internships” to “International Students & Taxation”. The Step by Step initiative comprehensively covers the needs of International students!

Participating in the Step by Step workshop was the best decision I made during my studies in Mannheim. Not only did I learn something valuable and useful for my future profession, but I also received helpful feedback on what I can improve in order to have better job opportunities in Germany and to integrate better into German society. All foreigners share the same concerns due to worries about the future and problems associated with integration. Workshops like the ones of Step by Step help us all to overcome these problems.
