This page provides you with information on exam registration, late registration, withdrawal and de-registration, as well as resitting exams. Please refer to the non-official versions of the examination regulations for more details.
Exam registration
You need to register for all exams. It is your own responsibility to register for your first examination attempt by the end of the general registration period via the student portal. You often have the option to take your exam either on the regular or the alternate examination date. Should you choose the alternate examination date, please bear in mind that in most cases, you will have to wait a year until you can resit the exam in the event that you fail or do not take the exam.
With the following mandatory elective examinations, you can only register for one of the two, respectively:
– Microeconomics A or Macroeconomics A
– Einführung in die pädagogische Psychologie or Einführung in die Erziehungswissenschaften
The bachelor's thesis must always be registered with the responsible examiner, irrespective of the examination attempt. Your examiner will then transmit your registration to Student Services.
Late registration
Late registration is only possible three days prior to the respective regular examination date. You can do this free of charge via the student portal. This deadline also applies to late registrations for the alternate examination date (provided this is an option for the exam in question). For exams that do not conclude with an exam, the deadline ends on 2 December 2023.
Change in registration
Students can change their registration for written exams from the regular to the alternate examination date or vice versaup to three days prior to the respective regular examination date. You can do this free of charge via the student portal.
Withdrawal and de-registration
You can withdraw from a written exam in Portal² up to three days prior to the examination date without having to state a valid reason. If no examination date is indicated in Portal², the deadline for withdrawal is 2 December 2023. This deadline also applies to examinations that are not written exams.
Once the deadline for withdrawal has passed, you are obliged to take the exams you are registered for. The same applies if you need to take a (resit) examination that is subject to mandatory registration. It is then only possible to be de-registered from an exam if you have a valid reason (such as illness). Find out more about de-registration from exams here.
Resitting an exam
If you fail an exam or are unable to take an exam you are registered for due to a valid reason, you need to retake the exam at the earliest opportunity, provided you still have examination attempts left for that particular exam. As a rule, you will be registered by Student Services (mandatory registration). The mandatory registration will be renewed until you either pass the exam or fail the exam with no option to resit.
Change of modules
If you fail an exam or did not take an exam you were registered for, you can make a request to the examination committee to change to another course within the module if they are electives (Microeconomics A or Macroeconomics A or Einführung in die pädagogische Psychologie or Einführung in die Bildungswissenschaften). You must submit this request when you register for the new examination at the latest. Please bear in mind that you cannot change a course more than twice. The number of examination attempts you have left will be transferred to the new course.
