International Summer and Spring Schools

You want to get a taste of living abroad during the semester break and broaden your academic horizon? Then the numerous short-term programs offered by many institutions worldwide during the spring or summer breaks might just be right for you. They are short, intensive courses on a specific topic or subject which take place over four weeks, for example. You will often be able to obtain ECTS credits that can possibly be recognized for your program of study at the University of Mannheim.

  • Fees

You will usually have to pay a fee for summer and spring schools. Costs may vary considerably depending on the respective country and/or institution. Unfortunately, the University of Mannheim cannot cover these tuition fees or other costs.

  • Funding through the DAAD Go-East summer school program

The DAAD offers considerable funding for summer schools in Middle or Eastern European countries as part of the GO-EAST Summer School program. Funding is available for the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kirghistan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldavia, Poland, Romania, Russia (European part), Russia (Asian part), Slovenia, Ukraine and Hungary.

Funding includes a partial scholarship and a grant for travel expenses (depending on the country) as well as a grant for the summer school fee of up to EUR 650.

More information on the application process can be found on the DAAD Go-East website (only available in German).

We are not aware of any other scholarships.

  • Application

Applications have to submitted directly to the respective institution. There is no nomination or registration carried out by the International Office of the University of Mannheim. This is especially important to keep in mind if the partner institution offers free participation in the summer school via exchange study places. Participating in this way is generally not possible, since the study places including an exemption from tuition fees are only used for the regular exchange programs at the University of Mannheim.

  • Summer and spring schools at our partner universities

Many partner universities of the University of Mannheim offer short-term programs and send us the respective information so that we can pass it on. The following table contains these program offers, without any rating of their contents.

We continuously add offers to the table. Links that are not activated at the moment will be activated as soon as the information on new courses is available to us. We recommend researching the programs on the websites of the universities that are of interest to you.

You can also look for programs at other universities all around the world.

At this moment, no short-term program offers are available as the deadlines for this summer have expired. This is where we will publish information on any new offers for spring and summer 2019 that we receive:
