Career

In addition to my studies of Economic and Business Education, I worked as a student assistant, gaining valuable initial work experience. I wrote my master's thesis at Volvo Group. Working at Volvo, I seized the opportunity and applied for a trainee program. I focused on the field of Human Resources (HR) early on and passed through various departments in the company. At the start of and throughout my career, my flexibility in terms of work location has proven to be very beneficial. Since I was ready to relocate, I got to know different HR departments and was quickly entrusted with my first management responsibilities. Eventually, I was offered the position of HR manager and HR business partner at MAN. I both led national projects and was part of international ones. Business trips to Sweden and Thailand turned out to be valuable not only for my professional but also for my personal life. Currently, I am employed and also work freelance.

Tips for starting your career

I would recommend everybody interested in a career in HR to stay authentic and ambitious. You should also know that working in HR is not always pleasant and that it can be challenging. A well-connected network can support you over the long term—start establishing it as soon as possible. If you are also committed to your job and are passionate about it, your employment prospects as a graduate of the University of Mannheim are very promising and many doors are open to you.

Relevance of the studied program

Studying at the University of Mannheim laid an important foundation for my professional career. Not only did I acquire subject-specific knowledge but also project management skills, communication techniques, and effective strategies for exploring new topics. Thanks to my studies, I became more independent and learned what perseverance means. These skills have proven to be valuable for my daily work and helped me to achieve my current position.
