Career

After I completed my bachelor’s degree in Mannheim, I took a gap year and used the time to intern at Daimler and BOSS. Thanks to the gap year, I was able to get to know a variety of sectors and professions. During this time, I not only developed professionally, but also improved my strengths and identified areas for improvement. Then I moved to Copenhagen for my master’s degree and studied Management of Innovation & Business Development at Copenhagen Business School. In order to finance my studies and to get to know the Danish start-up culture, I worked part-time in an IT start-up. In my master's thesis, for which I moved back home to Karlsruhe, I discussed the benefits of accelerator programs for start-ups. The trainee program at EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg with a focus on digitalization, innovation, and new business models immediately appealed to me, so I started the program with 14 other trainees in November 2019.

Tips for starting your career

A trainee program is a good way to get to know a company in all its facets. By working across various areas of the company, I get to know the different departments, subsidiaries, working methods, and colleagues. Going through the different departments enables me to gain valuable experience and learn more about the company and the complex concepts of the energy industry. Each department offers me a new perspective and the opportunity to develop personally, professionally, and methodically. This helps me choose the right career path after my trainee program.

Relevance of the studied program

Studying Business Administration at the University of Mannheim laid the foundation for my further career. Thanks to the marketing course with Dr. Kuester, I discovered my passion for innovative ideas, which guides me in my current path and position as Corporate Trainee at EnBW with a focus on innovation and new business models.

The international focus of the bachelor’s program in Business Administration at the University of Mannheim also prepared me well for my master's program in Copenhagen. Spending my fifth semester abroad at Koç University, I was able to gain first intercultural experiences, which contributed to my personal development. I also benefited from this experience during my master's program in Denmark. Ultimately, I can say that studying at the University of Mannheim taught me perseverance, discipline, and willpower.
