Career

Back then, I decided to pursue a generalist program at the School of Social Sciences at the University of Mannheim as various fields of study sparked my interest and I did not want to commit myself right away. The diversity of topics in the Social Sciences eventually convinced me. During my studies, I worked as a research assistant at ZUMA (now GESIS) and as a salesclerk in a sports shop. After I completed my studies, I started to work as a junior copywriter in an advertising agency. I worked there for three years until I switched to the customer side to STA Travel. After occupying the position of campaign manager for three years, I eventually joined Deutsche Bahn (sales). I started my professional career there as a marketing manager in charge of a new mobility project. After another three years, I shifted to the Customer Relationship Management department at Deutsche Bahn (Fernverkehr), where I have been working as an adviser ever since.

Tips for starting your career

By the end of my studies, I had decided to focus on marketing and advertising and chose all subsequent jobs accordingly. In my opinion, it is important to gain as much practical experience in the desired field of expertise as possible. This way, applicants are able to prevail over educated economists later on.

Relevance of the studied program

Thanks to my studies, I was able to get acquainted with various disciplines and fields of study that had initially sparked my interest without having to commit myself from the start. Since I did not know exactly what career path I wanted to pursue before the end of my studies, it was best for me to decide on my professional orientation only after gaining detailed insights in the respective fields of study.
