10th Anniversary of the Sports Scholarship at the University of Mannheim

In 2009, the Greinert Family established the Mannheim Sports Scholarship. On Monday, a welcome ceremony was held for 28 new students, who were officially awarded a scholarship.

The Mannheim Sports Scholarship is a true success story. In its first year in 2009, it was awarded to nine students. Now, in the year of its tenth anniversary, no fewer than 60 top-level athletes studying at the University of Mannheim currently receive scholarship funding, while another 60 scholarship holders have already successfully completed their studies. In 2017, the Sports Scholarship was extended to include students from Heidelberg University and is now called “Spitzensport-Stipendium Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar”.  This year, 14 new students from each university benefit from this great program.

In celebration of the anniversary, cyclist Theresia Schwenk, who is one of our current scholarship holders, interviewed founder and sponsor of the scholarship, Klaus Greinert, and the President of the University of Mannheim, Prof. Thomas Puhl, to find out more about the history and the future of the Sports Scholarship.
