One of this year’s recipients of the renowned Rising Star awards by the American Association for Psychological Science (APS) is Dr. Monika Undorf, Margarete von Wrangell fellow and head of the junior research group at the Chair for Cognitive Psychology and Individual Differences at the University of Mannheim. She is the second Mannheim psychologist to receive this prestigious award.
The Rising Star designation recognizes outstanding psychological scientists in the earliest stages of their research career whose innovative work has already advanced the field and signals great potential for their continued contributions. Undorf was honored for her innovative research on human metamemory and metacognition.
The psychologist looks at how humans reflect on and actively control their own learning and memory processes. In one of her most recent projects, Undorf examined whether cheating in tests causes students to overestimate their performance in later tests due to them falsely attributing their good results to high ability.
