With the program “BW-BigDIWA – Wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken gestalten den digitalen Wandel”, the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg aims to support university libraries in Baden-Württemberg in developing future strategies for digital transformation. Thanks to the program, which is the only one of its kind in Germany, the university libraries in Baden-Württemberg will be provided with a grant of 8 million euros in total. The sum will be used to fund 15 innovative programs of more than 30 libraries. Of the fund, the library cooperation between the University of Mannheim, the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim and the DHBW will receive a share of 400,000 euros.
As part of a joint project of all official higher education institutions, the University Library of Mannheim is in charge of optimizing the mutual use of the libraries and setting up joint study rooms. Modern Design Thinking areas will be established at all locations to support creative and experimental group study and to create new innovative study rooms at different places in Mannheim. The cooperation partners will also use the grant to develop a joint training concept designed to improve information literacy skills.
