Felix Olsowski at 2022 PEDD Conference

Felix Olsowski participated at the 5th International Conference on The Political Economy of Democracy and Dictatorship, held from 24–25 February 2022. After a one-year break due to the pandemic situation, the conference which is hosted by the University of Münster und brings together economists and political scientists from around the globe was continued this year, albeit in a fully virtual format.

At the PEDD conference, Felix presented the results of his on-going project “Judicial Independence under Threat: The Appointment of Judges in Clientelistic Regimes”. Using original data on applications, nominations, and appointments of judges on the Philippines, he identifies a biased application pattern and the on-going influence of the president on the selection process as important issues for the independence of judges.
