On 6 May 2021, the members of the Senate of the University of Mannheim have elected new Vice Presidents. “To account for the importance of the growing numbers of tasks and to be able to tackle them, we decided to increase the number of members of the President's Office: We now have four instead of three Vice Presidents who will work with Barbara Windscheid and me to further the strategic development of the university”, President Prof. Puhl says. The term of office of the Vice Presidents is three years and starts on 1 October 2021.
Not only has the President's Office more members, it also has new areas of responsibility: Laura-Marie Edinger-Schons, Professor of Sustainable Business, will continue the work of Executive Vice President Barbara Windscheid in the field of “Sustainability”. This topic will play an important role in the Vice President’s work. In addition, Edinger-Schons will be in charge of “Information Provision”. Annette Kehnel, Professor of Medieval History, will serve as “Vice President for Student Affairs and Teaching”. Thomas Fetzer, Professor of Law, will be in charge of “Strategic Planning, Internationalization and Equal Opportunity”, the social scientist Prof. Henning Hillmann will be responsible for “Research and Early-Stage Researchers”. “I am very much looking forward to collaborating with the new Vice Presidents. At the same time, I would like to thank the current Vice Presidents for their outstanding work in the past three years”, says President Prof. Thomas Puhl.
The regular term of office of the current Vice Presidents Prof. Angelika Storrer (Vice President for Student Affairs, Teaching and Equal Opportunity) and Prof. Dirk Simons (Vice President for Strategic Planning, Infrastructure and International Affairs) and Prof. Edgar Erdfelder (Vice President for Research and Early-Stage Researchers) will end on 30 September 2021.
Personal Profiles
Prof. Dr. Laura-Marie Edinger Schons earned a degree in Economics and Business Management from RUB (Ruhr-Universität Bochum). In 2011, she completed her doctorate and in 2016 her habilitation. From 2011 until 2015, she held a post-doc position in the Sales & Marketing Department in Bochum. In 2015, she was appointed junior professor for Corporate Social Responsibility at the University of Mannheim. Since 2016, she has been holder of the chair of Sustainable Business. She is co-founder of the Digital Social Innovation Lab and the Peer School for Sustainable Development. In addition, she is co-founder of the regional group of the “Scientists 4 Future” movement in Mannheim.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Fetzer, LL.M. (Vanderbilt) earned a law degree from the University of Mannheim. In 2000, he earned his doctorate and in 2009, he completed his habilitation. In 2003, he received a LL.M. from Vanderbilt University. Since 2008, he has been a teacher at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. In 2010, he was a substitute professor and the holder of the chair of tax law and business and economic law at the Technische Universität Dresden. Since 2012, he has been Professor of Public Law, Regulatory Law and Tax Law at the University of Mannheim. From 2014 until 2017, he was vice dean and then dean of the School of Law and Economics. He is one of the directors of the Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation (MaCCI), the MannheimTaxation ScienceCampus (MannheimTaxation) and the Institute for Corporate Law (IURUM). Since 2020, he has also been a judge at the administrative court Baden-Württemberg.
Prof. Henning Hillmann, Ph.D. studied Social Sciences at the Humboldt University of Berlin and Sociology at Columbia University, where he completed his Ph.D. in 2004. From 2004 on, he was junior professor for Sociology at Stanford University. Since 2009, he has been Professor for Economic and Organizational Sociology at the University of Mannheim. Since 2017, he has also headed the project “Occupational Licensing—Between Professional Closure and Labour Market Integration” at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research of the University of Mannheim.
Prof. Dr. Annette Kehnel studied History and Biology at the University of Freiburg as well as the Somerville College Oxford and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. In 1995, she received her doctorate from Trinity College Dublin. After that, she was a researcher and teacher at the Technische Universität Dresden, where she completed her habilitation in 2004. In the same year, she was a substitute professor at the Technische Universität Dresden, before she joined the University of Mannheim where she holds the chair of Medieval History. From 2009 until 2013, she was dean for student affairs and then dean of the School of Humanities. Since 2019, she has been presiding the foundation council of the Ekkehard Foundation.
