“Wissen bewegen” Program

Support for female staff members at the University of Mannheim

The program “Wissen bewegen!” (“Advance knowledge!”) is organized and supervised by the Department of Educational Innovation of the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Innovation (ZLBI) at the University of Mannheim. The program supports employees of the University of Mannheim who, individually or as a team, want to explore and pursue new and creative paths at their university. In line with the program's title, the aim is to transfer knowledge between different groups, disciplines and areas – both within and outside the university. In this way, new knowledge communities are to be created. A project within the program can be implemented in interdisciplinary, intersectoral, international or other open formats.

As part of the program, 2–4 two-year fellowships will be awarded. The aim of the program is to enable fellows to plan, test, and further develop evidence-based, bold, adjustable, and even risky projects . The fellows are supported individually during their projects. Through their commitment, they contribute to the initiation and implementation of innovative formats at the University of Mannheim and beyond.

The Elfriede Höhn Fellowship

The fellowships awarded from 2022 to 2024 and 2024 to 2026 are sponsored by the late Professor Dr. Elfriede Höhn (1916-2003).

Elfriede Höhn (*1916; †2003) was a German educational researcher and professor of Educational Sciences and Educational Psychology at the University of Mannheim.

She embodies the spirit of fellowship:

  • She courageously stood up for her convictions, for example, for the preservation of psychology studies at the University of Mannheim and in doing so opposed renowned scientists at the time.
  • She was a pioneer: She was the first Vice-President of the University of Mannheim and the first woman to take a psychology diploma at the University of Tübingen.
  • She was not immune to setbacks: Her first habilitation failed (among other things, because she was in conflict with a supervisor, and she successfully completed it in a second attempt.
  • She worked in an interdisciplinary way and brought together different professions together: In addition to her professorship, she also worked as an elementary school teacher.
  • She was also involved in society outside of the world of research. For example, she founded the senior citizen program and participated in the establishment of the Psychological Counseling Services and a daycare center at the University of Mannheim.

She also promoted psychology as a science, developed psychodiagnostic test procedures and worked intensively on stereotypes in the education profession and the resulting effects.

The fellowships include material and non-material support.
