Lion Behrens is a research associate at the Collaborative Research Center 884 “The Political Economy of Reforms” and a PhD student at the Center for Doctoral Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences. He holds a Master of Science in Methodology and Statistics from the University of Utrecht and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Bremen. During his studies he spent research stays at the Latin American Social Science Institute (FLACSO) in Quito, Ecuador and the Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences (GESIS) in Mannheim.

His methodological work centers around Bayesian statistics. Currently, he is implementing a Bayesian method that allows for synthesizing quantitative evidence even when stemming from heterogeneous statistical models as commonly applied in the social and political sciences. His first substantive publication focuses on young party members and their different incentives for partisan engagement over three latent categories.
