Share your documents and data in a fast and secure way with bwSync&Share.

bwSync&Share is an exclusive offer by the Land allowing students and staff members at higher education institutions in Baden-Württemberg a fast, secure and free way of storing, exchanging and synchronizing data between different users, desktop computers and mobile devices. You can access your data from your internet browser or, alternatively, via a Sync&Share Client.

How can I use bwSync&Share?

You can access bwSync&Share via the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) website. To do so, you need to create a bwSync&Share account:

You can then log in to bwSync&Share by using

  • your Uni-ID (user ID) at the University of Mannheim and
  • your password for this ID.

How do I get invited to a shared folder?

To get access to a shared folder, an invitation with the standard e-mail address or sender address is required. The default address follows the pattern firstname.lastname@uni-mannheim.de You can check your standard e-mail address on the user administration website: e-mail | Uni-ID.

  • Requirements of use

    Legal requirements:     

    • Please observe the terms of use.
    • The user must ensure that
      • no sensitive personal data (within the meaning of Art. 9 of the General Data Protection Regulation),
      • no data containing illegal content and
      • no data that violates the copyrights or property rights of third parties are transmitted to KIT for storage.
    • The user is solely responsible for compliance with the applicable national and international customs and foreign trade law, the EU embargo regulations in their current version and for imposing the same obligations on their relatives and members who receive access to the service accordingly. In particular, storage or admission to the service cannot take place if there is an EU embargo regulation against certain countries or persons that prohibits storage or admission as a form of technical assistance (http://www.ausfuhrkontrolle.info/ausfuhrkontrolle/de/embargos/index.html) or if the storage or use of the services and systems offered or the results generated with them can be used in any form for military purposes.

    Technical requirements:    

    • Internet browser with latest update and stable internet connection
    • All common operating systems are supported.
    • Before you can use bwSync&Share, you need to register at https://bwidm.scc.kit.edu. You can then access the service website at https://bwSyncAndShare.kit.edu, where you can download the necessary software allowing you to synchronize data between different user devices and the bwSync&Share servers.
    • As a way of authentication, you need to create an account with bwSync&Share and log in using a personal user ID and password.
    • All users have access to a personal space with a storage capacity of 25 GB, which they can share with other users. The bwSyncAndShare website website provides you with further information on exchanging data and storing data online.
  • Technical details

    • The data of bwSync&Share users are stored on the storage systems of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and are thereby subject to German data protection legislation.
    • The communication between user devices and the central storage systems is encrypted.
    • Only the user who initially stored the data as well as users who have been granted access rights can access these data.
  • Service availability

    The bwSync&Share service is currently in its first three-year operating phase. During this period, all costs for the basic service including 25 GB storage capacity are covered by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg (MWK).

    We guarantee a 99.9 percent service availability. However, we cannot exclude downtime in individual cases.
