Follow-up report on the MetaFin symposium on June 2 and 3, 2025

The first MetaFin symposium took place at the University of Mannheim from June 2 to 3, 2025. MetaFin is a joint project that provides scientific support for the 28 individual and joint projects of the BMBF funding guideline “Research on Financial Education”. The Meta project is being carried out under the joint leadership of Prof. Dr. Carmela Aprea (University of Mannheim & MIFE) in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Tabea Bucher-Koenen (ZEW, University of Mannheim & MIFE) and Prof. Dr. Dirk Loerwald (Institute for Economic Education, IÖB).

Rethinking financial education: How the “MetaFin” project aims to advance financial education research

MetaFin” is the start of a five-year joint project between the Mannheim Institute for Financial Education (University of Mannheim and ZEW) and the Institute for Economic Education (University of Oldenburg), which aims to bring about lasting change in the research and dissemination of financial education in Germany. Parliamentary State Secretary Dr. Jens Brandenburg handed over the funding decision today, Friday, in the Senate Hall of the University of Mannheim.

The CHF was established as part of the MetaFin joint project, which accompanies the projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ) as part of the “Research on Financial Education” directive. MetaFin's partners are the Mannheim Institute for Financial Education (MIFE), a joint initiative of the University of Mannheim and the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW), and the Institute for Economic Education (IÖB).
