Das Seminar thematisiert das Erstellen, digitale Erschließen und empirische Analysieren geistes- und kultur­wissenschaft­licher Datensammlungen am praktischen Beispiel zeitgenössischer Popsongs. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf den textuellen Inhalten, wodurch DH-relevante Bereiche wie Computer­linguistik und Korpuslinguistik in den Fokus rücken. Aktuelle Methoden, Standards und Werkzeuge (z.B. Analyse- und Visualisierungs­tools) werden unter Einbezug einschlägiger Forschungs­literatur vorgestellt und praktisch erprobt. Auf diese Weise wird eine Verschränkung von Theorie und Praxis erreicht. Die Studierenden kompilieren eine digitale Songtext-Datensammlung, annotieren diese ggf. nach linguistisch motivierten Kriterien und explorieren die resultierenden Primär- und Metadaten mit dem Ziel der Beantwortung einer wissenschaft­lichen Fragestellung. Diese kann selbst vorgeschlagen oder aus vorgegebenen Themen gewählt werden.

Spätestens bis zur vierten Seminarsitzung werden die jeweiligen Fragestellungen verbindlich vereinbart und gemeinsam der weitere methodisch-praktische Ablauf diskutiert und festgelegt. Die Studierenden stellen ihre Vorgehensweise in themen­spezifischen Referaten vor und arbeiten sie entweder als schriftliche Hausarbeit aus oder diskutieren Fragestellung und Ergebnisse in einer mündlichen Prüfung. Die Gestaltung einer wissenschaft­lich fundierten Hausarbeit wird im Seminar einführend vermittelt.

Dieses Seminar führt in Theorie, Methoden und Befunde zur Verwendung von Sprache in der sozialen Interaktion ein. Die Interaktionale Linguistik ist aus der Konversations­analyse entstanden und interessiert sich dafür, wie Sprache im Gespräch verwendet wird, um soziale Handlungen zu vollziehen, Verständigung zu sichern, Wissen und Emotionen anzuzeigen, usw. Untersucht wird der Einsatz sprachlicher Strukturen, z.B. unterschiedlicher Partikeln, prosodischer Konturen, Satztypen und grammatischer Formate, in Bezug auf ihre Leistungen in der Interaktion und die Bedingungen ihrer Verwendung. Weitere Schwerpunkte der jüngsten Forschung liegen in der Untersuchung des Zusammenspiels von Sprache und anderen Modalitäten des leiblichen Handelns (wie Gestik, Blick oder Gebrauch von Gegenständen) und die Erkundung von Phänomenen am Rande der Sprache, wie z.B. Vokalisationen und onomatopoetischen Ausdrücken.

Im Seminar kann auch mit nicht-deutschsprachigen Daten gearbeitet werden.

Die Vorlesung beginnt erst am 17. September.


Gedichte stellen aus linguistischer Sicht eine Herausforderung dar. Trotzdem (oder deshalb?) stehen sie selten im Fokus linguistischer Forschung. Dabei sollten doch gerade Gedichte als Evidenz für sprachliche Kreativität und Varianz eine ideale empirische Grundlage für die linguistische Theoriebildung sein.

Die Vorlesung geht von der immer wieder diskutierten Hypothese aus, dass Gedichte mit ihrer oft ungewöhnlichen Syntax, ihrer eigenwilligen textuellen Struktur und ihrem anspruchsvollen Bedeutungs­aufbau durch sprachliche Abweichungen gekennzeichnet sind, also in irgendeiner Weise nicht den Regeln und Prinzipien „normaler“ Sprache entsprechen. Die Vorlesung widmet sich im Wesentlichen dem Versuch zu zeigen, dass diese Hypothese falsch ist.

Im Laufe der Vorlesung werden die meisten Kerndisziplinen der Linguistik aufgerufen. Die Veranstaltung erlaubt es so gleichzeitig, linguistisches Grundwissen in seiner Breite zu aktivieren und zu vertiefen. Wir werden uns dabei vor allem mit Syntax (Satzgliedanalyse, Topologie, Valenz), Semantik (Polysemie, Metaphern, Argumentstruktur), Pragmatik (Sprechsituation, Deixis, Implikaturen, Explikaturen) und Textlinguistik (Kohärenz, Kohäsion) beschäftigen.

Wenige Gattungen dominieren die deutsche Populärkultur so sehr wie der Krimi. Auch im frei empfangbaren deutschen Fernsehen locken Kriminalerzählungen regelmäßig mit Traumquoten ein Millionenpublikum vor die Bildschirme, weshalb der sonntagabendliche Krimi zur Prime-Time einigen sogar als das letzte ‚Lagerfeuer‘ für die in der postdigitalen Medienkultur zunehmend zersplitterte Familiengemeinschaft gilt. Aufgrund ihrer Popularität und damit ihrer gesellschaft­lichen Wirkmacht nutzen viele Mediengestalter*innen bewusst Fernsehkrimis, um das Millionenpublikum mit gesellschaft­lichen Tabu- und Streitthemen zu konfrontieren und öffentliche Debatten zu provozieren.

In diesem Seminar wollen wir gemeinsam herausarbeiten, wie Fernsehkrimis gezielt zur Popularisierung und Diskussion von gesellschafts­relevanten Themen und Vorstellungen genutzt werden. Dafür werden wir zum einen theoretische Grundlagen u.a. zur Kriminalerzählung sowie zur politischen und gesellschaft­lichen Funktion von Medien erarbeiten und einschlägige Beispiele analysieren, die neben Tatort- und Polizeiruf-110-Filmen auch weniger bekannte Fernsehkrimis wie beispielsweise den Spreewaldkrimi, Harter Brocken oder auch Miss Merkel umfassen. Mit einer Doppelperspektive werden wir sowohl danach fragen, wie diese Fernsehkrimis ihre Themen behandeln und beispielsweise einzelne Aspekte betonen, marginalisieren oder sogar ausblenden, als auch danach, wie sie die Konventionen des Fernsehkrimis dafür nutzen und variieren. Teilnehmende lernen so beispielhaft anhand des Fernsehkrimis, Texte in ihren Traditionen wie auch in Bezug zu gesellschaft­lichen Themen, Vorstellungen und Debatten zu kontextualisieren und zu kritisieren.

TRIGGER-WARNUNG: Da die meisten Fernsehkrimis von Verbrechen erzählen und wir gerade solche analysieren und diskutieren wollen, die sich gesellschaft­lichen Tabu- und Streitthemen widmen, werden Teilnehmende für jede Sitzung Fernsehfilme eigen­verantwortlich vorbereiten müssen, die teils drastische Verbrechens-, Gewalt- und Sexszenen beinhalten können und ggf. auch höchst problematische Themen wie Pädosexualität, rassistische Gewalt, Kannibalismus oder Terrorismus behandeln. Alle Materialien, die wir besprechen werden, wurden jedoch für eine Ausstrahlung im frei empfangbaren Fernsehen freigegeben.

Obwohl im Stift Klosterneuburg bei Wien über 400 Jahre lang eine Frauengemeinschaft neben dem Männerkonvent bestand, ist diese nach ihrer Auflösung im Jahr 1568 weitgehend in Vergessenheit geraten. Die Zeugnisse ihrer Existenz wie Urkunden und Handschriften, aber auch Güter und Kunstgegenstände gingen in den Besitz des Augustinerchorherrenstiftes über, das bis heute besteht. Anhand von noch weitgehend unedierten Quellen aus dem Stiftsarchiv sollen die Spuren der Lebens­welt und Kultur der Klosterneuburger Chorfrauen nachverfolgt werden. Dabei sollen sie im Vergleich mit anderen Frauenkommunitäten und Doppelklöstern einer Neu­bewertung unterzogen werden.

Das Hauptseminar findet zweiwöchentlich und an einem Blocktermin statt.

The lecture International Cultural Studies introduces students to basic select topics and concepts related to the field of cultural studies by discussing texts and theories from international scholars. It provides an overview of key terms such as race, class, gender, and identity among others and enables students to understand and reflect upon these key terms and their underlying concepts within their historical, societal, and cultural context. To do so, it raises questions on how cultural texts and practices shape our understanding of society, politics, history and culture.

Organizational Information
There will be 5 parallel groups (International Cultural Studies: Lecture A-E) for this course. You will need to register for one group only.
Each parallel group consists of two complementary sections: a weekly preparatory lecture (45 minutes) followed by an interactive discussion session (45 minutes).
Students will be able to prepare the lecture material on their own time. In each guided discussion session, students collaboratively engage in more detail in topics and concepts introduced in the lecture recordings.
Each recorded lecture will be made available with all other materials (presentations, texts) a week before each discussion session. 

There will be an introductory lecture on 6 September 2024 at 12:00 for all parallel groups. This first session will provide more information on the organizational structure and the content of this lecture. Discussion sessions for all groups will begin in the first week of the lecture period.
There will be two additional digital information and recap sessions for all parallel groups during the semester on 18 October 2024 and on 6 December 2023 at 12:00.

Kurzbeschreibung und Lernziele:

Today London is a global economic centre. It is the largest city in western Europe, being home to around 9 million inhabitants, around 40% of which have immigrated to the city from abroad. Its gross regional product represents around a quarter of UK GDP, in large part thanks to its financial services industry. It is served by a vast transport network, including the famous Tube, which serves 272 different stations across the city.

To understand London’s economic prominence today, we need to understand its past. How did a city which was marginal in around 1200 become the largest city in Europe by the nineteenth century? To explore this question, we will consider several themes including London’s infrastructure and place in the UK’s economic geography, the living standards, health and welfare of its population, the growth of financial markets, and the lived experience of immigrants.

After three preparation seminars, we will go on a field trip to London in mid-November. Here students will have the opportunity to consider the economic history of the city in situ. We will visit an archive, museum and several standing buildings to understand the economic evolution of the city, and students will share presentations based on their research on the topics of the course. While we will part-fund this field trip using university finds, students will also need to make an own contribution.

Please note that due to the need to organise the field trip, students must commit to taking this course in May. Students who drop out of the course after they have registered, may be liable to pay the full fees for the trip, including the part funded by the university.

Die Vorlesung behandelt grundlegende Fragen der Er­kenntnistheorie vom Beginn der neuzeitlichen Philosophie bis heute. Sie ist damit auch eine Einführung in die moderne theoretische Philosophie. Ausgehend von Fragen der beginnenden empirischen Wissenschaft und vom Problem des er­kenntnistheoretischen Skeptizismus besprechen wir den Rationalismus (R. Descartes, G.-W. Leibniz), den britischen Empirismus (J. Locke, G. Berkeley, D. Hume), I. Kants Transzendentalphilosophie, die sprachliche Wende des Logischen Empirismus und die Philosophie(n) L. Wittgensteins.
Die vorlesungs­begleitende Lektüre besteht weitgehend aus Ausschnitten der relevanten Primärliteratur und wird zu Semesterbeginn bekannt gegeben.

Wie sind die romanischen Sprachen entstanden? Wie ist ihre Ausdifferenzierung zu erklären, ihre heutige 'Gestalt' zu beschreiben? Computer­vermittelte Kommunikation und insbesondere das Partizipations- und Interaktions­potenzial des Web 2.0 hat einerseits in etablierten Text- und Handlungs­musern des digitalen Raums nachhaltige Veränderungs­prozesse angestoßen, andererseits die Herausbildung neuer Diskurspraxen überhaupt erst ermöglicht. Neben theoretischen Auseinandersetzungen mit Konzepten wie 'Medium', 'Kommunikation', 'Multimodalität' (u.a. das Zusammenspiel von Text und Bild) oder 'Hypertext' sollen anhand eigener empirischer Analysen die Spezifika kommunikativer Handlungs­muster von politischer und wirschaft­licher digitaler Kommunikation (z.B. Websiten, Twitter, Instagram oder Corporate Blogs) im frankophonen Raum erforscht werden. Dabei wollen wir gemeinsam bewerten, wie sich bestehende kommunikative Praxen durch das Social Web verändern und wo genre emergence im Sinne der Entstehung neuer Textsorten vorliegt.

Die Pragmalinguistik / Pragmatik, im weitesten Sinne definierbar als „Lehre vom sprachlichen Handeln“, untersucht Sprache unter Berücksichtigung der Sprachbenutzer*innen, ihrer Ziele in der sprachlichen Interaktion un der sozialen, situativen und textuellen Kontexte, innerhalb derer sprachliche Äußerungen vollzogen werden. In diesem Seminar setzen wir uns mit grundlegenden pragmalinguistischen Fragestellungen auseinander, die wir anhand von authentischen Gesprächen von Sprecher*innen der jeweiligen romanischen Sprachen untersuchen. Um die erarbeiteten pragmatischen Theorien und Modelle im Seminar empirisch überprüfen zu können, erstellen wir kleinere Korpora des gesprochenen und geschriebenen Französisch, Spanisch und Italienisch und werten diese mit konversations­analytischen Methoden aus. Grundlegende Modelle, die im Seminar behandelt werden, sind die Sprechakttheorie, die beschreibt, wie wir die verschiedensten Handlungen mithilfe von Sprache vollziehen können, sowie das Kooperations­prinzip und die Implikaturentheorie, die der Frage nachgehen, wie wir mehr kommunizieren und verstehen können als tatsächlich 'gesagt' wird. Ebenfalls zentral für eine pragmalinguistische Analyse, die Sprache innerhalb des sozialen Miteinanders und des Status des Individuums in der Gesellschaft beleuchtet, ist der aus den Sozialwisschenschaften stammende face-Begriff, unter dem das öffentliche Bild bzw. Image eines Individuums in der Gesellschaft verstanden wird. Die kontinuierliche Wahrung des eigenen und des fremden face stellt hierbei ein grundlegendes Prinzip sprachlicher Interaktion dar. Sprachliche Höflichkeit wird in diesem Sinne als face work, also als „Arbeit“ an diesem öffentlichen Image, verstanden, und manifestiert sich in unterschiedlichen diskursiven Strategien, die sich innerhalb verschiedener Sprachgemeinschaften und historisch gewachsener sozialer Umgangsformen unterscheiden können.

Vor dem Hintergrund historischer und aktueller Entwicklungen werden im Rahmen des Seminars die Regionalsprachen Spaniens in Katalonien/Valencia, Galizien und dem Baskenland behandelt. Neben typologischen, soziolinguistischen und sprachplanerischen Fragestellungen wird das besondere Verhältnis der Regionen zum Zentralstaat Spanien sowie deren politische, wirtschaft­liche und kulturelle Situation thematisiert. Die Sprachenpolitik Spaniens sowie ein Vergleich der Regionalsprachen in Bezug auf Sprecheridentität und die Verbreitung von Mehrspachigkeits­kompetenz in den jeweiligen Regionen bilden weitere Schwerpunkte des Seminars. Als eine Methode zur Messbarkeit der Vitalität von Sprachen wird das verhältnismäßig neue Forschungs­feld der Linguistic Landscapes (LL) beleuchtet. Neben dem Kennenlernen der Methodik im Allgemeinen werden exemplarisch einzelne LL-Studien zu den Regionalsprachen Spaniens besprochen.

Phonétique articulatoire, système phonologique du français standard et son évolution, transcription, exercices de discrimination, de reconnaissance (oppositions consonantiques et vocaliques) et d'émission par répétition, transformation et substitution seront les sujets traités. Des exercices structuraux (grammaticaux) de synthèse ont pour objectifs de rendre plus spontanée la prononciation correcte, l'attention se portant, non sur la réalisation des phonèmes, mais sur le contenu et la forme globale de l'expression à produire. Ensemble d'exercices élaborés à l'usage des étudiants de Mannheim à partir d'une analyse des fautes portant sur plusieurs semestres.

Dialogues et poèmes pour l'acquisition des éléments prosodiques. Ces exercices doivent être préparés avant le cours.

Nous passerons une journée à Strasbourg, ce sera l'occasion entre autres d'interviewer les Français.e.s sur leur langue.

• Approfondissement des bases acquises au niveau I concernant la définition, les expressions idiomatiques, l'identification d'éléments de l'article appartenant au registre oral et leur reformulation dans un niveau plus soutenu (afin notamment de diversifier son vocabulaire);
• Comprendre des articles, des entretiens, des reportages et des éditoriaux de la presse écrite, de nature injonctive, argumentative et polémique dans les quatre domaines déjà définis au niveau I, afin de distinquer l'information du commentaire; 
• Acquérir les bases de l'analyse du discours (champs lexicaux, registres de langue, figures rhétoriques, ton) en vue d'intoduire l'interprétation stylistique et concernant l'opinion ou l'intention de l'auteur;
• Acquérir des connaissances nouvelles ou plus approfondies à partir des informations contenues et de recherches personnelles sur la civilisation et l'actualité française;
• Poursuite et approfondissement des lexiques élaborés en niveau I et en élaborer de nouveaux sur des thèmes plus pointus, mais appartenant toujours aux quatre domaines définis au niveau précédent;
• Approfondir certains points de grammaire contenus dans les textes et les particularités grammaticales qui y sont contenus.

Une participation active et régulière est indispensable.

Entraînement à l'expression orale sous la forme d'une prise de position sur les sujets traités. Les textes pour l'expression écrite sont issus de la presse (Le Monde, Libération, L'Express, le Nouvel Observateur, Le Figaro, L'Humanité...)

Défendre ses opinions, émettre un avis sur un sujet en exposant clairement les avantages et les inconvénients. Construire une argumentation logique en utilisant des connecteurs. S'exprimer avec naturel, aisance, efficacité et assurance dans un registre formel ou informel.

Entraînement à la prise de position orale et écrite.

Identifier le contenu et la pertinence d'un article. Comprendre l'essentiel d'un texte complexe. Synthétiser et évaluer des informations issues de sources et de registres de langue divers. Elargir son répertoire lexical. Approfondir ses connaissances linguistiques et socio-politico-culturelles.

Ecrire des textes structurés en utilisant des connecteurs logiques pour relier ses idées clairement.

Une participation active et régulière aux cours est indispensable.

Kursinhalte und Qualifikations­ziele: 
Révision et affermissement des connaissances grammaticales de base; structures de la phrase; élargissement du vocabulaire en vue de l'établissement de traductions correctes quant à la grammaire, aux idées et à l'expression. L'accent n'est pas mis sur le style.

Textes choisis: articles tirés de la presse allemande traitant de sujets culturels, économiques ou politiques et concernant plus particulièrement la France, les relations franco-allemandes et l'Europe.
Ces articles seront traduits en alternance avec des textes littéraires modernes, postérieurs à 1945 et des textes sur le vin & sa culture.
Les textes sont préparés en groupes. En cours, les étudiants sont invités à soumettre leur traduction qui est discutée et corrigée collectivement à partir d'une interprétation (ou de plusieurs interprétations possibles) du texte allemand.

Par ailleurs, vous pourrez mettre en pratique vos connaissances lors du Salon du vin qui se tiendra à l'automne à Heidelberg. Nous soutiendrons les viticulteurs français en traduisant leurs réponses et les questions des visiteurs. Pour cette participation vous obtiendrez un certificat.

Une participation active et régulière aux cours est requise.

Le esercitazioni si prefiggono di ampliare le elementari competenze linguistiche acquisite dagli studenti nel corso del Propädeutikum. Il corso verterà tuttavia in prima linea a sviluppare le capacità comunicative (scritte e parlate) degli studenti che parallelamente avranno la possibilità di acquisire conoscenze più specifiche sulla cultura, politica e società italiane. Si prediligerà in tal senso l'approccio giornalistico (materiale originale d'attualità: articoli tratti dalla stampa, registrazioni audiovisive di notiziari) che costituirà la base didattico-metodologica di tutti i corsi successivi.

È consigliata la frequenza parallela dei corsi di lingua Comprensione I ed Espressione I: si ricorda però agli studenti che per entrambi i corsi sono richiesti anche notevole impegno e disponibilità ad investire alcune ore a casa per la preparazione dei lavori che si svolgeranno.
