Fellowships

The CAS focuses on fellowships for professors of the University of Mannheim. The fellowships are awarded after a two-stage selection process. In the first stage, the Scientific Advisory Board, consisting of nine professors from other universities, creates a ranking list of applicants for the fellowships. In the second stage, the Board of Directors, consisting of three internal members, makes the final selection.

The fellowships enable five professors (full-time, W3) at the University of Mannheim to dedicate one semester to a research idea without having to take on a teaching load. Ideally, the ideas of the fellows in a given semester can be brought together for further development.

During the lecture period, the fellows are involved in a structured framework program of two days per week. Elements of the framework program include weekly lectures by the fellows on further developing the research idea, joint social activities as well as meetings and workshops with (inter)national guests.

To intensify the work, the fellows of a given semester go on a one-week retreat away from the campus and Mannheim.
