Meta-project on Financial Education (MetaFin)
Financial literacy is crucial for the personal financial security of the population in Germany, as well as for social participation and overall economic stability. To strengthen financial literacy in Germany, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) launched the Financial Education Initiative last year, which includes a funding guideline for research projects in this area. The MetaFin project aims to connect the research projects funded under this funding guideline. The project also addresses cross-cutting research questions and brings together national and international research findings on financial education. MetaFin refines research findings for different target groups to provide a basis for decision-making on financial education in Germany. The program focuses on three central fields of action: networking, research and knowledge transfer. Within these fields of action, conferences and workshops will be organized, a Clearing House for Financial Education Research (CHF) will be established and a new journal for applied research and knowledge transfer in the field of financial and economic education will be launched.
The project is funded by the BMBF and carried out by the Mannheim Institute for Financial Education (MIFE) in cooperation with the Institut für Ökonomische Bildung (IÖB) in Oldenburg.
