Financial Competence-Monitor (FinKomp)

The Financial Competence-Monitor (FinKomp) project lays the foundation for continuous monitoring of financial competence among the adult population in Germany across all life stages. To achieve this, the dimensions and facets of financial competence are identified within a competence framework that also considers the objectives of the national financial education strategy. Based on this framework, measurement instruments are developed and validated, including a monitoring questionnaire that will be used regularly to assess financial competence. The questionnaire includes detailed questions on financial knowledge, financial attitudes, financial behaviour, and financial situation or well-being, as well as socio-demographic characteristics.

The goal is to design the surveys in a way that provides a comprehensive overview of adults' financial competence in Germany while also enabling differentiated analyses for specific life stages and age groups. The survey waves are supplemented by flexible focus topics to address current developments, examine disadvantaged groups specifically, or explore open research questions in the field of financial education.
