Ehrendoktortitel für Ulrich Schreiber

For his outstanding scientific achievements in the field of business taxation, the Faculty of Economics at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover has awarded Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schreiber the academic degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences honoris causa. Professor Schreiber's research focused on accounting, tax effects and tax planning, corporate taxation, tax harmonization in the EU and international corporate taxation. Professor Schreiber received his doctorate from the University of Mannheim in 1979 and habilitated in business administration there in 1985. From 1999 to 2019, he held the Chair of General Business Administration and Business Taxation at the University of Mannheim.

Professor Leif Döring has received medal of the International Mathematical Society IMS

The US-based Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) has honored the Professor of Mathematics at the University of Mannheim for organizing a virtual One World Symposium at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Professor Döring has received the medal for initiating and taking over a leadership role in the organization of the Bernoulli IMS One World Symposium in August 2020. The world congress, which was scheduled to take place in Seoul, had to be canceled due to the pandemic. The Mannheim mathematician and his committee have organized an innovative and highly successful symposium with more than 3,000 participants from all over the world. The symposium with exciting live presentations and more than 600 video presentations was an outstanding platform for early-stage researchers.

Eckhard Janeba now Chair of the Board of Academic Advisors of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action

Professor Eckhard Janeba, Professor of Economics at the University of Mannheim is the new chair of the Board of Academic Advisors of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). The Board of Academic Advisors gives the ministry advice on all aspects of economic policy. In addition to the implementation of the energy transition, the most important topics on the Board’s agenda are a new foreign economic policy in a new geopolitical situation, the financial sustainability of the social security systems, climate protection, and shaping competition in the digital era.

Professor Torsten Biemann honoured as “Shaper of the World of Work”

As part of the award ceremony for the “40 Leading HR Minds 2023”, the HR magazine Haufe honoured Professor Torsten Biemann, holder of Mannheim's Chair of Human Resource Management and Leadership, as a “formative shaper of the working world” in the special category “Big Five”. Biemann has been included in the biennial list of leading HR minds five times since the awards were first presented. With his empirical research and evidence-based teaching in the field of human resource management and leadership, he has regularly convinced the jury of the trade magazine for more than a decade. Every two years, the HR magazine Haufe selects 40 people as “leading HR minds”. This year, the “Big Five” category was published for the first time. This honours people who have already been included in the list at least five times.

Humboldt Foundation selects Sabine Carey as Henriette Herz Scout

Sabine Cary, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science at the University of Mannheim, was selected as Henriette Herz scout to recruit up to three international talents for a research stay at her chair. Since 2010, Professor Carey has been holder of the chair of Political Science, International Relations at the University of Mannheim. As Henriette Herz scout, she will have the opportunity to recommend up to three researchers from abroad for a Humboldt Fellowship and to add other excellent researchers to her team. The program of the Humboldt foundation, worth 125,000 euros, is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Professor Arthur Seibold has received the Schmölders prize 2023

Arthur Seibold, Ph.D., Professor of Economics at the University of Mannheim, has received the Schmölders prize 2023, which is awarded by the Verein für Socialpolitik (VfS). In the award-winning study, Seibold tries to understand why most people in Germany stick to the statutory pension age when making the decision to retire.

Professor Oliver Brand elected to the Presidential Council of the International Association for Insurance Law

At the XVI World Congress of Insurance Law in Melbourne, Australia, Professor Oliver Brand, holder of the chair of Private Law, Insurance Law, Business Law and Comparative Law, was elected to the Presidential Council, the highest decision-making body of the International Association for Insurance Law (Association Internationale de Droit de Assurance – AIDA). The Presidential Council consists of a maximum of 32 (currently 25) standing members and decides on the academic program of the International Association for Insurance Law. At the same time, Professor Brand was appointed to AIDA Europe's committee. Together with his colleagues from Europe, he will work on the design of health insurance policies in times of demographic change.

Research funding for Dr. David Izydorczyk

The German Research Foundation has awarded funding in the amount of almost 362,000 euros to Dr. David Izydorczyk of the Chair of Experimental Psychology to investigate this question. How long will it take me to get to the office? How many calories does this meal have? What is the carbon footprint of this product? Estimating quantities or numbers is part of our daily life and the subjective answers to these questions influence our behavior considerably. Thus, the exactness of our estimates is important. For research on this topic, the German Research Foundation (DFG) has awarded funding in the amount of almost 362,000 euros to Mannheim psychologist Dr. David Izydorcyzk of the Chair of Experimental Psychology.

Beatrice Rammstedt receives the Alfred Binet Prize for promoting quality in psychological diagnostics

The Mannheim psychologist receives the prize of the German Psychological Society for her research in psychological diagnostics and for establishing diagnostic procedures for recording psychological traits. Professor Dr. Beatrice Rammstedt, holder of the chair of Psychological Assessment, Survey Design and Methodology at the University of Mannheim and Vice-President of GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, has been awarded the Alfred Binet Prize 2023. The jury has awarded her the prize in particular because she has developed instruments for measuring psychological traits. Rammstedt has contributed significantly to the visibility and collection of these traits in disciplines other than personality psychology, the jury said. In psychological diagnostics, researchers analyze how human experience, behavior and their relevant conditions, can be described, classified and measured.
