Gender-Sensitive Language
An important measure to recognize the diversity of the members of our university is to represent them at linguistic level. In its meeting on 23 August, the President’s Office has thus decided to update the University of Mannheim’s guidelines on using gender-sensitive language. The Communications and Marketing departments are responsible for implementing these guidelines. We therefore use gender-neutral wording (e.g., “first-year students” instead of “freshmen”) in our website texts, articles, and press releases.

University staff members can find more information on using gender-sensitive language on the intranet.
