How Can I Change My Password?
Together with your user ID, the password is used to verify you as student of the University of Mannheim so that you can access various services, such as the wireless network or the services of your digital student ID card, the ecUM.
Please note that you will have to enter the new password for your Uni-ID in various services. You will be asked to enter your new password for most services, e.g. in your mail client. However, there is an exception for the WLAN connection, where you must manually remove “eduroam” from your device and reconnect. You can find instructions on how to do this at the bottom of this page “How to turn off the eduroam connection”.
Step 1 – Login
Please log in to MyUni-ID of the University of Mannheim with your university ID and your old password.
Now click “continue” in the “Password” field. On the following page please select also “continue” under “Change Password”.
Step 2 – Create a new password
Please fill in the form by
- indicating your existing password in the field “existing password”
- creating a new password in the field “new password”
- repeating your new password in the field “repeat new password”
Please click then on the “change” button. Your new password is now active.
How to turn off the eduoram connection
Instructions for Windows
Step 1: Open Windows Settings using the shortcut Windows key + I.
Step 2: Click on “Network & internet” and select “WiFi“.
Step 4: Select “eduroam” and click on “Forget”.
Instructions for macOS
Step 1: Click on the Wireless symbol (at the upper right corner of the bar).
Step 2: Select “Wi-Fi” in the bar at the left and click on the three dots under “Known network” next to “eduroam”. Click on “Forget this network” in the window which opens.
Step 3: Click on “Remove”.
Step 4: Move the mouse over eduroam under “Other networks” so that the button “Connect” appears. Then click on “Connect”.
Step 5: Enter the following network settings and confirm by clicking “OK”:
- Account name: Uni-ID@uni-mannheim.de (please use your personal “Uni-ID”)
- Password: The password for your Uni-ID
Step 6: Click on “Continue”.
Choosing a password
Please note the following password requirements at the University of Mannheim:
Passwords must be at least 10 characters in length (but no more than 20 characters) and must contain at least one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, one digit and one special character.
You may only use the following characters:
- Lowercase letters (a-z, no umlauts)
- Uppercase letters (A-Z, no umlauts)
- Digits (0–9)
- as well as the following special characters: ! @ # $ % ( ) _ + – = : ; " , . ? /
You must not reveal your password to others.
