With FileService, we offer you internal storage at the university which you can access online from across the globe on your desktop computer or laptop. Your data will not be retrieved or otherwise used. Thanks to our anti-virus protection and regular backups, you can conveniently save your data at any time and have a free, reliable and secure space to keep them stored for years to come.
How can I use FileService?
You can access FileService directly via the Windows Explorer by entering the corresponding path.
To do so, you will need:
- your Uni-ID (user ID) for the University of Mannheim
- a VPN client to gain access from outside the university network
Enter your ID at the end of the following path: \\nas.uni-mannheim.de\stud-shares\
Alternatively, you can access FileService via “This PC ► Map network drive”, where you also need to enter the corresponding path under “Folder”.

Requirements of use
Legal requirements
- Users are personally responsible for the content of their data and the assignment of rights.
Technical requirements
- All common operating systems are supported.
- You need your Uni-ID (user ID).
- You can use the FileService either within the university network or externally by means of a VPN client.
Technical details
- Storage capacity is generated automatically and limited to 2 GB.
- Encryption is possible if users use their own software.
- Availability of previous versions (possible recuperation of files generated previously)
- Reliability: operation in HA mode (high availability), use of two servers (fail-over clusters), mirrored storage systems (all files are stored on separate storage systems); server and storage systems are distributed between different sites
- Anti-virus protection and an encrypted, separately saved backup
Service availability
We guarantee a 99.9 percent service availability. However, we cannot exclude downtime in individual cases.
