Handbook “Female founders with refugee experience – a compass for start-up counselling and training” published

Based on the findings of the scientific monitoring of the >>Perspektive neuStart<< programme, our handbook offers start-up advisors tried-and-tested best practices.
The Institute for SME Research (ifm) at the University of Mannheim collected and analysed a large amount of data in the “Perspektive neuStart” network as part of the scientific monitoring between 2017 and 2020. In particular, it focussed on the strategies and measures used to support start-ups for people with refugee experience and the question of whether a particular concept proves to be particularly effective. The results indicate that it is not so much a specific start-up support concept, but rather certain factors that are the key to successful counselling practice for founders with refugee experience. In this handbook, we present our tried and tested best practices.
The structure is based on the different phases of the start-up support process: recruitment, knowledge transfer, market entry and sustainability, as well as the relevance (must-have, nice-to-have) of the individual measures.
The handbook was developed in cooperation between the Schöpflin Foundation and the ifm at the University of Mannheim with four partners from the start-up consultancy sector:
- Fitt gGmbh in Saarbrücken
- Grünhof in Freiburg,
- leetHub St. Pauli in Hamburg und
- SINGA Deutschland in Berlin
In a broad consultation process with over 15 other organisations providing start-up advice for founders with refugee experience and entrepreneurs, further examples of best practice were collected and incorporated.
We would like to thank everyone who took part in this process.
The long version of the handbook and the short version as a poster can be downloaded.
