Michael Woywode at Harvard University

The director of the ifm is currently spending a research semester at one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

Professor Michael Woywode is spending his research semester FSS 2026 at Harvard University. The research landscape in Boston offers an amazing number of opportunities. Not only Harvard itself, with its various institutions such as Harvard Business School, Harvard Medical School, and Harvard Kennedy School, allows for stimulating exchange. In the immediate vicinity of Harvard, there are numerous other research-intensive institutions, including MIT, Boston University, Northeastern University, Tufts University, Suffolk University, etc. It is therefore no surprise that many private companies, such as Roche/Genentech, Pfizer, Vertex, Merck, Moderna, Boston Dynamics, Google, and Commonwealth Fusion, have also established their research centers here. Several US government-funded centers of excellence in energy, health, and defense have also settled in Boston. And finally, powerful financial players such as investment banks, venture capital, and private equity/private debt institutions are not far away. One gets the impression that there are many formal and informal exchanges between the various players. Not least because the managers of these institutions often studied and learned at the same institutions. So they know each other. With such a mix of input factors, one can be sure that many groundbreaking developments will continue to take place here in the future.
