Which topics does the German Internet Panel cover?
The topics covered by the GIP are diverse. They include attitudes towards political reforms, the welfare state, German and EU politics, as well as health, social inequality, education, and employment. In addition, the panel data always include the respondents’ key socio-demographic information. The GIP questionnaire modules are developed by researchers in cooperation with the GIP team. All GIP questionnaires can be found on our website.

When will the Scientific Use File of the next GIP wave be available?
The GIP implements survey waves in a bi-monthly cycle. The data are made available for scientific research as Scientific Use Files six months after the completion of fieldwork and after data preparation and pseudonymization. An overview of all currently available waves can be found in the data archive at GESIS Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences.
I would like to conduct analyses with data that are not available in the GIP data archive. Can you help me?
The GIP collects a wealth of detailed information as well as paradata that cannot be provided in Scientific Use Files for reasons of data protection. In order to enable scientists to work on these data, the GIP offers On-Site Data Access (ODA) at a researcher workstation in the Schloss Schneckenhof Library. On request, we can provide sensitive data such as small-area information, the year of birth, verbatim data, ECSP collected paradata, as well as detailed response categories that were aggregated in the Scientific Use Files. This sensitive information may be used in the controlled environment of the ODA.
