Coauthored also by Mujtaba Ahsan (San Diego State U.), Kevin Mole (U. of Warwick), Samuel Adomako (U. of Birmingham), Michael Gyensare (U. of Kent) and Jintong Tang (Saint Louis U.), the study explores how entrepreneurial alertness (EA) influences entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and firm performance in dynamic environments. It highlights that while gathering information can reduce uncertainty, over-focusing on information acquisition without proper processing can lead to inefficiencies and missed opportunities. The research, conducted with 209 small and medium enterprises in Ghana, shows that balancing information acquisition and processing is crucial for fostering EO and improving performance. The study also expands the understanding of EA, revealing that its dimensions work through flexible, non-linear pathways, helping entrepreneurs adapt to changing environments.
