Interdisciplinary and international: Our Annual Lecture Series “Data Science in Action”
Since fall 2022, the Mannheim Center for Data Science (MCDS) and the European University Alliance ENGAGE.EU have jointly organized the lecture series “Data Science in Action.” The series brings together experts from the University of Mannheim and international partner universities across Europe.
The aim of the lecture series is to showcase the diverse applications of data science and to provide exciting insights into cutting-edge research. In 45-minute lectures, renowned researchers present perspectives on a wide range of topics, followed by an interactive discussion with participants.
The lecture series is both interdisciplinary and international. The speakers come from the University of Mannheim as well as partner universities that are part of the European University Alliance ENGAGE.EU, a consortium of leading European universities in the fields of economics, business, social sciences, and related disciplines. They represent a broad range of subject areas, highlighting the many ways in which data science contributes to research and society.
In addition to students enrolled in the Mannheim Master in Data Science and doctoral students at the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS), master's students from ENGAGE.EU partner universities can apply to participate in the course and take the examination. All lectures are also open to the public as guest listeners.
The lectures are held online via Zoom, usually on Thursdays from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. (CET). This year, the lecture series begins on September 17, 2026. After registering via our website, participants will receive the access link by email. Registration for the Fall Semester 2026 will open soon.
