Book chapter on social sustainability published

Based on a literature review and interviews with the entrepreneurial family, Jan Tänzler and Annegret Hauer identify possible paths to sustainable production in the textile industry.

For many years, companies in the textile industry were considered to be more profit-orientated than sustainability-orientated. This sometimes meant that little consideration was given to working conditions and that these were hardly monitored, particularly in supplier countries. One company that bucked this trend early on by cultivating a value-based corporate culture is the clothing manufacturer Trigema in Burladingen. This article will analyse why Trigema took a different approach at an early stage and which sustainable activities the company is focusing on. Another central question is what values underlie this attitude and how these have been passed down through the generations. The analysis is carried out against the background of the development of the textile industry over the last few decades.
