The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Bau supports small and medium-sized companies in the construction and real estate industry in their digital transformation. The center is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) for the years 2022–2025.
The small-scale nature of the construction and real estate industry makes the development and dissemination of innovative digitalization solutions much more difficult than in other sectors. Ultimately, only approaches that enable the networking of these comparatively small companies across the entire process chain can lead to success.
The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Bau supports small and medium-sized companies in the construction and real estate sector in their digital transformation. It teaches digital skills and strengthens the future viability of the industry. The practical support services cover the entire construction value chain by linking digitalization and sustainability: from project development to dismantling. To this end, the center offers in-depth information material, events and digitalization projects with target-oriented roadmaps for SMEs. The industry-wide cooperation network promotes active exchange and networking between all those involved in the process.
The topics covered by the center include:
- Digital planning process around Building Information Modeling (BIM)
- Digital construction site
- Digital facility management, circular economy and the Internet of Things
- Collaborative and digital business processes
- Digital business model innovation
Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP, the Jade University of Applied Sciences in Oldenburg, the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF in Magdeburg and the “eBusiness-KompetenzZentrum” in Kaiserslautern, specific points of contact are offered for these topics.
The ifm Mannheim focuses on providing support in the area of “digital business model innovation”. Due to limited resources, innovations in business models and corporate strategies rarely take place, especially in smaller companies in the construction and real estate sector. The ifm therefore teaches business management methods and concepts for developing strategic skills and designing digital business models.
