In the spring of 2022, a wildflower meadow was planted behind the Schloss Mittelbau towards the Rhine. It is an important food source for insects and a good way to improve the sustainability of less ecologically diverse environments such as lawns.

The wildflowers are perennial, which means that their seeds remain viable in the soil for several years, even when during the winter months the plants above ground die. The seed mixes used were “Honey plants for fallow land”, “Terragold bees’ feast”, and “Wildflower meadow without grass”.

The wildflower meadow was planted by the state office for property and construction Mannheim/Heidelberg (Vermögen und Bau Baden-Württemberg).
