Data, teamwork, and creative analysis: At DataFest Germany 2026 at the University of Mannheim, students from across Germany took on the challenge of uncovering insights from a complex Wikipedia dataset within just 48 hours.
Around 35 researchers from across disciplines came together at the University of Mannheim for the latest edition of the Academic Speed Dating. Under the theme “Experiments and Causal Research with AI”, the event combined inspiring keynotes, short research presentations, and lively discussions, fostering exchange and new collaborations within the data science community.
On October 16, Academic Speed Dating in the fall semester of 2025 brought together around 40 participants for an inspiring afternoon of scientific exchange under the theme “Exploring Frontiers: Data Science for Information Systems and Society”.
As part of the MCDS Distinguished Lecture series, Prof. Kosuke Imai delivered a lecture entitled “Does AI Help Humans Make Better Decisions? A Statistical Evaluation Framework for Experimental and Observational Studies” at the University of Mannheim on March 4, 2025.
The Academic Speed Dating in the fall semester of 2024 brought together around 25 participants for an inspiring afternoon of networking, learning, and collaboration at Mannheim Palace on November 7. The highlight was the keynote by Prof. Margret Keuper.
DataFest Germany took place at the University of Mannheim from April 5 to 7, 2024. For the first time, the School of Social Sciences organized the 48-hour competition for students together with the MCDS.
As the first guest speaker of the MCDS Distinguished Lecture, Prof. Meeyoung Cha gave a lecture entitled “Making Discoveries for Humanity & Society with Data Science” at the University of Mannheim on April 9.
Over 30 participants came together at the Academic Speed Dating event in the spring semester 2024 to discuss this and other questions and find out about current research in this field at the University of Mannheim.
On September 29, 2023, MCDS, together with the Data Science Center of the University of Bremen and the Digital Science Center of the University of Kiel, organized a workshop on “Current Developments and Perspectives (at Universities) in Data Science” as part of the Informatik 2023 conference.
The second lecture series Data Science in Action was international and interdisciplinary. 11 experts from 6 countries shared their research with the audience online.
On 22 September 2022, after a longer break due to the pandemic, the MCDS was once again able to host an Academic Speed Dating on the topic of Data Science at the University of Mannheim.
For the first time, the Mannheim Center for Data Science and the European University ENGAGE.EU organized a lecture series in the fall semester 2022, representing the broad spectrum of application areas of data science.
