Student in the Hasso Plattner Library

During Your Studies

During your studies in Economic and Business Education, you will deal in depth with Business Administration and Economics, Statistics and Public Economic Law. Additionally, you will also focus on Education Sciences and, of course, Economic and Business Education. During later stages of the bachelor's degree program, you can also choose a general elective subject such as English, History or Mathematics.

To directly link theory and practice during your bachelor's and master's program, there are various opportunities for internships in schools or at companies.

  • Teaching Practice 1

Teaching Practice 1 in the bachelor’s program in Economic and Business Education (B.Sc.) is part of the fifth subject-specific semester. Teaching Practice 1 consists of a seminar course at university (preparation and follow-up on the school internship and a two-week internship at a vocational school (with a focus on Business and Economics)).

The course is offered by the Area Economic and Business Education. When it comes to registering for an internship at a school, we cooperate with the administration of the Ministry for Education and Cultural Affairs.

Please note that three separate registrations are required for participating in Teaching Practice 1: You need to register for the course, for the examination in Teaching Practice 1 and for your internship at a school. Please register for the course and the examination in the university's portal in due time. For registering for an internship at a school as part of Teaching Practice 1, please register on the online platform www.praxissemester-bw.de. Each year, registration for the internship for Teaching Practice 1 is possible from 15 October until 15 November.

On the website of the Area Economic and Business Education, you will find more information on Teaching Practice 1.

  • Teaching Practice 2 and 3

Teaching Practice 2 and 3 consist of a four-week internship at the school the students already know from Teaching Practice 1. The state seminar for training and in-service training of teachers in vocational schools (Staatliches Seminar für Ausbildung und Fortbildung der Lehrkräfte (Berufliche Schulen)) in Karlsruhe supports students who study Economic and Business Education at the University of Mannheim during Teaching Practice 2 and 3.

For more information, please refer to the website of the Area Economic and Business Education and the website of the state seminar for training and in-service training of teachers in vocational schools in Karlsruhe.

If you have questions about the accompanying seminars at the state seminar, please contact Oberstudienrätin Michaela Gralla (mail) and for organizational matters relating to the school for your internship, please contact Maik Friedrichs at the Regierungspräsidium Karlsruhe (mail).

Lehr:werkstatt

In the fifth and sixth semester of the bachelor’s program in Economic and Business Education, you can take part in the Lehr:werkstatt, which allows you to work one-on-one with a teacher for a whole school year.
