Study a program in Teacher Education or Economic or Business Education

With the programs in Teacher Education and Economic and Business Education, the University of Mannheim offers two multi-faceted programs to become a teacher. With a master's degree in Teacher Education or Economic and Business Education, graduates can start the preparatory service (Referendariat) and work at a secondary school (allgemeinbildendes Gymnasium) or a vocational school (berufliche Schule). With an interdisciplinary degree in Economic and Business Education, you can also start a business career.

Advice for prospective students

The Center for Teacher Education and Educational Innovation provides advice for prospective students when it comes to the teaching profession and teacher eduaction in Baden-Württemberg. This includes general advice on the profession, ways to become a teacher, working at a school and the programs available at the University of Mannheim – for example at the information days and other information events for pupils on campus or online – and in presentations at schools and career fairs.

Becoming a teacher

The Teacher Education team at the ZLBI is also the point of contact for students in Teacher Education programs as well as in Economic and Business Education who want to become teachers. We provide advice on the teaching professions, the way to become a teacher, working at schools, the practical elements of the Teacher Education programs and the preparatory service. In the bachelor's program in Teacher Education, the ZLBI contributes to designing, organizing, and conducting the  first school placement.

Symposium on data-based quality development in teacher training and educational research

On Wednesday, 17 May 2023, the symposium “For over 100 years in Mannheim: Teacher training and educational research in the exchange process between university and schools – a starting point for data-supported quality development” took place at the University of Mannheim. At the event, which was organized by the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Innovation (ZLBI) – Teacher Education and to which around 70 guests were invited, experts from numerous fields discussed the topic of data-supported quality development.
