Support Services

Have you experienced or witnessed (sexualized) violence in sports and don't know who you can talk to about it? Are you unsure whether you have experienced an abusive situation? Has someone hurt, shamed, humiliated or insulted you? Do you feel alone with what you have experienced? Then remember: you can get advice and support! You are not alone. If you need support because you have experienced or witnessed violence, you can turn to the following support services:

  • Contact options in university sports

If you experience or witness boundary violations, discrimination, and/or sexual violence during university sports activities, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can contact us in writing by email. Describe your concern or request for feedback. We will usually respond within 48 hours with a suggested appointment time for a meeting (either in person on site, via Zoom, or by phone).
    Email: safesportmail-uni-mannheim.de
We will, of course, treat your concern confidentially and without assigning blame.

For a personal consultation by phone, the contact persons in the Equal Opportunities Department at the university are also available to you. There you will also receive confidential support and further information on counseling and assistance services.

    Our approach

When you get in touch with us, we will meet you without any assignment of debt. We value your personality, your background and your personal boundaries. It is important to us to support each person and each case individually. We want to support you according to your needs and will not do anything without your consent. Of course, we will not share your case internally in order to protect your confidentiality.

    Who can contact us?

We are primarily available to people in university sports who have been affected by sexualized violence, have observed assaults, suspect sexualized violence or are looking for advice on how to deal with this issue. If you find yourself in such a situation, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. In addition, we offer help with any misconduct (unprofessional or inappropriate behavior, violations of ethical standards, bullying) and discrimination (any form of disadvantage based on origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, class, disability or other protected characteristics).

What happens in the initial consultation?

Once you have contacted us, we will get back to you within 48 hours with a proposal for an appointment. Depending on your wishes, this can take place in person, over the phone or digitally. You can tell us about your concerns in the initial meeting. Together we can find out what you need and how we can support you. We will not do anything without your consent. If you feel the need to take action with us after an initial consultation, various set-ups for follow-up appointments are possible.

What can you expect from us?

As Trusted Persons, we are trained in the basics of sexualized violence, how to act in case of suspicion and how to deal with those affected. As we are not trained trauma therapists, sex therapists or psychologists, we see ourselves primarily as a first point of contact to clarify internal conflicts, to support you and, if necessary, to refer you to external authorities. If you feel the need to take action after an initial meeting with us, we can arrange various follow-up appointments. We will then also discuss the extent to which anonymity and options for action go together.

In order to uncover perpetrators and possible strategies, we will discuss and document cases anonymously; no names or details will be mentioned that could point to your case.
