Self-commitment (Selbstverpflichtung) of the University of Mannheim Foundation as part of the Initiative Transparente Zivilgesellschaft

Since there is no uniform open access policy for non-profit organizations in Germany, several academics and civil society actors developed a self-commitment (Selbstverpflichtung), the Initiative Transparente Zivilgesellschaft, at the initiative of Transparency Deutschland e. The exemption determination letter (in German) from the tax office Mannheim-Stadt, tax code 38146/14230, dated 9 September 2021 , designates the University of Mannheim Foundation as exempt from the corporation tax for the last taxable period from 2018 to 2020, because it exclusively and directly pursues charitable and non-profit purposes within the meaning of section 51 et seqq. of the AO (Abgabenordnung).
