Deutschlandstipendium

The Deutschlandstipendium supports students and aims to provide room for commitment and personal development alongside their studies. Students receive 300 euros a month – half from the federal government and the other half from private sponsors.

On 22 September, the annual meeting of the scholarship recipients supported by the Stiftung Universität Mannheim and the Freunde der Universität Mannheim took place at their premises.

In a personal and warm atmosphere, the students also had the opportunity to meet representatives of the scholarship supporters. Over coffee and cake, they got to know one another, exchanged ideas, and talked about their studies, personal interests, and the motivation behind their shared commitment.

At the heart of the event were our scholarship recipients – young people with ideas, dedication, and a wide range of personal and academic backgrounds. For the supporters, it was a wonderful opportunity to experience firsthand who their commitment makes a difference for.

Behind every scholarship are individuals, companies, and members whose support creates opportunities. Many individual contributions – private donations, corporate donations, and membership fees – come together to make this support possible and help young talents on their journey.

In the 2026/27 funding period, the Stiftung Universität Mannheim and the Freunde der Universität Mannheim are thus enabling more than 50 scholarships through the Deutschlandstipendium program.

The meeting showed that support means more than just financial assistance. It creates encounters, brings people together, and can be the starting point for new connections and inspiring conversations.

Support from the E.W. Kuhlmann Foundation

The E.W. Kuhlmann Foundation was established in 1997 by Edith Kuhlmann and Edmund Kuhlmann († August 24, 2026). Its mission is to support people with limited financial means in pursuing their education and making the transition into professional life. For example, the Foundation supports students whose ability to complete their studies is at risk due to financial difficulties.

The E.W. Kuhlmann Foundation provides financial assistance to students in two formats: the Rolling Scholarship and a microloan, which is granted as part of the Study Completion Assistance programme.

Opportunity Scholarships Project

In 2016, Normann Stassen initiated the Opportunity Mannheim Scholarships by donating a generous amount to the University of Mannheim Foundation. The scholarships are to support dedicated entering freshmen and students of the University of Mannheim who are in financial need. In 2017, it was possible to set up a social fund for this purpose because the Rheinhyp support fund for staff members of Eurohypo (Rheinhyp Unterstützungsfonds für Eurohypo-Mitarbeiter, RUFE) was dissolved and the corresponding assets were transferred to the foundation. Any additional contributions are welcome.

The Opportunity Mannheim Scholarships are granted to motivated students who would not be able to attend university due to personal, family and financial reasons. Most of them come from abroad, have fled, and, despite all the adverse circumstances, still managed to express their desire to study at the University of Mannheim very clearly and to apply. With your help, we support these young people by providing them with a monthly allowance for their living expenses. Already in 2017, we were able to award the first twelve Opportunity Mannheim Scholarships.

In addition, at the request of several donors, the foundation awards several Deutschland Scholarships to high-achieving students each year depending on its earnings situation. The scholarships are granted via the University of Mannheim.

Top-class sports scholarship

The University of Mannheim Foundation has gained BNP Paribas Wealth Management – Private Banking as a new sponsor for the social fund of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region Sports Scholarship (MRN Sports Scholarship). The money from the social fund will benefit top athletes studying at the University of Mannheim.

I am extremely happy about the support I receive through the Opportunity Mannheim Scholarship. The support of the Opportunity Mannheim Scholarship allows me to better focus on my academic life and has enabled me to get through difficult times.
