Scholarships Project

In 2016, Normann Stassen initiated the Opportunity Mannheim Scholarships by donating a generous amount to the University of Mannheim Foundation. The scholarships are to support dedicated entering freshmen and students of the University of Mannheim who are in financial need. In 2017, it was possible to set up a social fund for this purpose because the Rheinhyp support fund for staff members of Eurohypo (Rheinhyp Unterstützungsfonds für Eurohypo-Mitarbeiter, RUFE) was dissolved and the corresponding assets were transferred to the foundation. Any additional contributions are welcome.

The Opportunity Mannheim Scholarships are granted to motivated students who would not be able to attend university due to personal, family and financial reasons. Most of them come from abroad, have fled, and, despite all the adverse circumstances, still managed to express their desire to study at the University of Mannheim very clearly and to apply. With your help, we support these young people by providing them with a monthly allowance for their living expenses. Already in 2017, we were able to award the first twelve Opportunity Mannheim Scholarships.

In addition, at the request of several donors, the foundation awards several Deutschland Scholarships to high-achieving students each year depending on its earnings situation. The scholarships are granted via the University of Mannheim.

I am extremely happy about the support I receive through the Opportunity Mannheim Scholarship. The support of the Opportunity Mannheim Scholarship allows me to better focus on my academic life and has enabled me to get through difficult times.

Thanks to the Opportunity Mannheim Scholarship, I was able to better focus on my courses in Political Science and my master's thesis. In addition, the support of the supervisors and the joint activities have helped me a lot to settle in Germany quickly.
