The foundation is represented by the board and a full-time managing director. She is responsible for the operational management of the foundation and for developing strategic plans, which are then discussed together with the board.

The bodies of the University of Mannheim Foundation are subject to the following rules laid down in the bylaws (available in German only): The board of directors consists of at least three and no more than five members. The term of office is four years. The board is made up of the President and four other persons. Two of them are representatives of ABSOLVENTUM and the Freunde der Universität Mannheim e.V. (FUM). The board can propose up to two more persons as additional board members who need to be approved by the board of trustees. The board of directors elects a vice chairman from among its members. It manages the foundation in accordance with the bylaws and carries out the mission of the foundation. The board appoints a managing director who manages the operational affairs and supports it in carrying out the foundation’s mission.

It completes the annual report and reduces the workload of the board of directors. The board of trustees has at least six and no more than twelve members. The term of office is four years.

Instead of an external trustee, the foundation has its own body, the investment advisory board, to manage the foundation’s investments. The investment advisory board consists of at least three and no more than six members. The term of office is three years. The managing director is ex officio a member of the investment advisory board. It advises the board of directors on the management and investment of the foundation’s assets.
