Santanu Kundu was born on June 27, 1986 in Durgapur, India. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Durgapur.  After his bachelors he spent 2 years working in commissioning a thermal power plant in India. He then pursued his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from in India. After completing the business studies, he worked as a corporate finance manager in one of the world’s leading textile exporting companies and subsequently spent 2 years in portfolio analytics and risk management in one of India’s largest private sector commercial banks. Driven by his motivation to pursue his academic curiosity in finance he then pursued his Research Master in Business from Erasmus University Rotterdam (at the Erasmus Research Institute of Management) from 2015–17. At Rotterdam, he gained invaluable insights into academic research working on different research projects with various professors in finance and attending different seminars and conferences. This motivated him to pursue his PhD at the University of Mannheim.
