Mengnan was born in 1993 in Beijing, China. She majored in Finance and obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of International Business and Economics in 2016. She then joined the Finance track of Mannheim Master in Business Research, where she also received research training in the core courses provided by GESS. Complementary to her study, she gained research experience at the Finance Laboratory of CITIC Trust (Beijing, China) as a research assistant, and at the Department of Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics in the Center for European Economic Research (Mannheim, Germany) as a student research assistant. After graduating with a M.Sc in 2018, she joined the Chair of Finance at the University of Mannheim as an academic staff member.
