Jan Lukas Mertes was born in Germany where he earned his high-school diploma in 2014. In 2018, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economic Sciences and Business Administration with specialization in “Finance and Accounting” from Goethe University Frankfurt. As part of this degree, Jan Lukas spent one academic year at the University of Birmingham and worked as a student assistant at the Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE and at the Goethe University Frankfurt. Subsequently, Jan Lukas gained comprehensive practical experience while completing internships at Ernst & Young, Lufthansa and Deutsche Bank. During this time he developed his interest in the role of human decision-making within Corporate Finance. To prepare for future academic work, Jan Lukas enrolled in the research-oriented MPhil program in Finance at the University of Cambridge where he was awarded a Master’s degree in July 2020. Since this program reinforced his decision to pursue an academic career in Finance, Jan Lukas joined the Finance track at the CDSB in September 2020.
