Nicola Schmitt was born in Rheinfelden-Baden, Germany, a town near the Swiss border and close to the city of Zurich. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Cologne, followed by a Master's in Business Administration with a specialization in Corporate Development. During her studies, Nicola spent a semester abroad at ALBA Graduate Business School in Athens, Greece, where she participated in one of the world's top Shipping Management programs, focusing on Strategic Management for Shipping Services. She has gained both research experience, as a research assistant at the Chair of Organizational Behavior, and practical experience through internships in the consulting industry, including at EY Switzerland.

Nicola joined the Management track of the Center for Doctoral Studies in Business at the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences in September 2024.

In her doctoral studies, she is looking forward to conducting research in the fields of Digital Transformation and Innovation with a specific focus on Generative Artificial Intelligence applications in organizations.
